After everything covered during the Domestic Abuse Champions Training, we gave Melissa one final challenge:

In one sentence, why does this training matter?

We’ll leave the answer to her.

If your organisation wants to build greater awareness of domestic abuse and give people the confidence to recognise and respond appropriately, find out more about Domestic Abuse Champions Training.

Domestic abuse doesn’t simply stop when somebody arrives at work.

For some people, colleagues may be among those most likely to notice that something has changed.

We asked Melissa why she believes domestic abuse awareness belongs in the workplace, rather than being seen purely as something that happens at home.

Domestic Abuse Champions are trained to recognise and support people experiencing domestic abuse, including within the workplace.

If your organisation is considering Domestic Abuse Champions Training, this one is worth watching.

Rather than us telling you why businesses and organisations should take part, we asked Melissa, someone who has actually completed the training.

Here’s what she would say to an organisation thinking about doing the same.

You can cover a lot during Domestic Abuse Champions Training, but what actually stays with you afterwards?

We asked Melissa for the biggest thing she took away from the session.

Sometimes one piece of learning can completely change how you recognise or respond to what might be happening around you.

Would you know what to look for if a colleague was experiencing domestic abuse?

Before completing the Domestic Abuse Champions Training, we asked Melissa how confident she felt recognising the signs in the workplace.

Her answer highlights exactly why awareness matters.

Why would someone choose to become a Domestic Abuse Champion?

We spoke to Melissa after she completed the training about what prompted her to take part and why she felt it was important.

Hear what brought her into the room.

Domestic Abuse Champions Training helps people build the knowledge and confidence to recognise domestic abuse and support someone who may be experiencing it.

In the 2026 UN Women survey, 41 per cent of women respondents said online violence had caused them to self-censor on social media, while 19 per cent said they self-censored at work.

When abuse pushes women out of conversations or makes them less visible, the harm extends beyond the individual and affects participation in public and professional life.
