The Labour government's 'Pride in Place' money is starting to make changes in Southampton. Consultation today with local residents at Sturminster House to get residents views on a new playarea. The scheme has been opposed by Reform and the Green Party called it an election gimmick.

New Green Party councillor for Freemantle Sam Pryce wasted no time at his first planning meeting to vote for a Reform councillor to become Chair of the committee against a Labour councillor. The Greens campaigned in the recent local elections saying they opposed Reform but that didn't last very long.

It never stops for Southampton Test members. Councillors and activists in Shirley ward talking to their residents in the sunshine.

Cllr Kloker out with Labour in Shirley members this morning on Chestnut Road. The Labour in Shirley tradition - which we continue - is to go out on Saturday mornings all year round to listen to residents, and see what concerns folks have in different parts of the ward. Some great conversations and lots of casework to follow-up on following our session.

Enjoy the sunshine today everyone!

King's speech today as we lay out our new agenda.

In the King's Speech today, the Government set out our next legislative priorities, which build on our achievements to date.

From ending the scandal of the leasehold system, to cleaning up our waterways and creating energy security, we're choosing to build resilience, spread opportunity and ensure we don’t just weather this storm, but build a stronger, fairer country for all.

Good news

Disabled residents in Southampton will soon be able to use their bus passes at any time of day, following a decision by the Labour Council to remove time restrictions and make disabled bus travel available 24 hours a day, seven days a week within the city.

The change is part of the Labour Council’s wider commitment to building a transport system that works for everyone and supports independence, equality and opportunity across the city.

Cllr Alex Winning, Labour Leader of Southampton City Council, “This is the right thing to do and it will make a real difference to people’s lives. Disabled people shouldn’t face artificial barriers about when they can travel. If we are serious about fairness, independence and opportunity, then we need to make sure people can get where they need to go – whenever they need to go."

Further details on implementation and timings will be shared directly with pass holders.
