Southampton City Council introduces new online resource for residents to find information and advice on equipment and assistive technology

Southampton residents can now benefit from new and improved ways of accessing free information and impartial advice to live independently and well for as long as possible.
Support is now available through a new online resource, EquipMe, which enables residents, their families and carers to find information and advice about equipment and assistive technology, with details on where to purchase them, to help with daily living tasks and staying independent at home.
The online resource, which is also available via a user-friendly app, covers a range of topics, including health and wellbeing, support in the home, common daily activities and support for children.
The tool can also produce a personalised report written by experts providing advice on ways to help with daily living or staying independent in your home, in addition to an impartial list of products and equipment – and information on where to purchase them - specific to your needs.
Councillor Lorna Fielker, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Housing, said:
“Many people don’t know where to go to for advice and support in Southampton, or how to access the equipment they may need. I’m really pleased we’re now able to give residents greater control over their lives by enabling them to get impartial advice about purchasing tools and equipment that will make daily living easier. EquipMe is a fantastic resource and I encourage anyone who needs help and support to live more independently at home to make the most of this valuable tool.”

87Spent the morning canvassing in Woolston with the help of 2 volunteers.
So good to engage in more conversations with local residents.
A resident in particular who will now be voting Labour for the first time after our conversation, is keen to volunteer in the community project I will be running in the ward.
"How unique is it that am able to speak to you Victoria on Victoria Road about the history of Woolston in the Victorian Time" this were his parting comment to me.
Thank you for knocking on my door.
Concerns on the door step were parking and speeding.

Hello Woolston ,hope you enjoying the sunny weather!
Works on John’s Road which will be delivered as part of the Woolston & Itchen Active Travel Zone to help address residents’ concerns relating to air quality, speed of traffic, and safety for people walking, wheeling, and cycling on local roads. Through ongoing dialogue with the council, local residents identified Obelisk Road and John’s Road as priorities for active travel improvements.
Following on from the works in Obelisk Road, pedestrian improvement works in John’s Road are planned to start from Thursday 13th July for approximately 2 and ½ weeks. The schedule for these works follows the two phases outlined below, with works taking place on site between 7:00am and 5:00pm each weekday (excluding bank holidays) and 7:00am to 1:00pm on Saturdays:

Works phase and location map Details of working arrangements
Phase 1 – from 13th July for approximately 5 days

Road closure on John’s Road between no.43 and no.57 John’s Road, including the Inkerman Road junction.
The one-way restriction on John’s Road will be temporarily suspended to enable resident access. However, resident parking will be unavailable within the road closure area for the duration of the works within this phase.
Pedestrian access past the works site will be maintained.
Access to Co Op car park will remain available via Portsmouth Road.

Phase 2 – from 20th July for approximately 7 days

Road closure on John’s Road between no.9 and no.25 John’s Road, including the Florence Road junction.
The one-way restriction on John’s Road will be temporarily suspended to enable resident access. However, resident parking will be unavailable within the road closure area for the duration of the works within this phase.
Pedestrian access past the works site will be maintained.

Prior to each phase of the works starting, parking on the carriageway around the works area will be suspended with “no waiting” cones. This is to ensure no disruption is caused to the works taking place. Any vehicles parked in the “no waiting” coned off area may have to be removed so we can continue working.
Following the above works on John’s Road and works recently undertaken on Obelisk Road, we will shortly be carrying out a full resurfacing to Obelisk Road before completion of the Woolston & Itchen Active Travel Zone improvements in your area. We will be in contact with affected residents/businesses prior to these works starting.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this may cause. Our team on site are trained to work considerately but if you have any problems during construction, please speak with one of the team.

It was really refreshing to see and hear the new improvements coming to Canberra Towers.
The core elements will be external Wall Insulation making their homes more energy efficient which will include replacement Windows .There will be new floors and mesh to keep the birds out whilst still able to let in fresh air.
New insulated roof that is fire resistant and a good out look for the area.
Warwick Payne and Sue Blatchford were also present to speak with the team.
The launch is the first stage, glad to have met Sarah Osborn on the left half of the photo. She is architect behind the new improment to Canberra Towers.
To all the team on this project, thank you for bringing back this exciting opportunity for local residents.

Out in Woolston talking and listening to entrepreneurs.
Getting into businesses means you hace to make profit to keep afloat. We also have entrepreneurs who focused on a great deal more than money and look to pursuing their passion. They contribute to society by leading the way and by finding innovative solutions to practical, financial and social issues.
Today I listened to stories of keeping with family traditions, keep history places running and putting passion
into practice.
Good vibes, Good community spirt.
