I had so much fun restoring Caroline, a 1950s hard plastic walking doll made by British National Dolls. She's had a clean, a new voice box, new wig, new lashes on one eye, restringing, and of course a lovely new outfit.

During the Second World War, there was a shortage of toys as we stopped making them in this country and of course German imports were banned. A few little girls were lucky enough to have a doll made by Reliable, a Canadian company who made beautiful composite babies like this one. I've cleaned her, rebuilt a missing finger, filled a chip above her eye, touched up her lip paint, replaced a few missing eyelashes, restrung her with fresh elastic, and dressed her. Her name is Sylvia.

I love it when customers give me free rein to get creative with a doll. A little while ago, I had Rosa, who was a body in need of a head, and this is Clara... a head in need of a body! The head is German bisque by Max Handwerck, made around the early 1920s. I found and repaired a composition body which is roughly the same age as the head and most likely very similar to what she would have had originally. Then I dressed her in antique clothing and added a vintage coat and shoes because I thought they suited her. I'm so pleased with the little character she's become.

Sally is an unmarked Roddy doll from the 1960s who came to me for a thorough clean, lip paint, and new eyes. It's so nice when these dolls are loved by the granddaughters of the little girls who originally played with them.
