SSJ believes in helping people so they never become homeless. Most of the people we support have been struggling with their mental health for years. It can be isolating and overwhelming.

We offer a range of programmes to come alongside someone that can turn a life around, create hope and a future. We need a compassionate community to enable our work.

Imagine for a moment you are struggling with your past; with childhood trauma, broken relationships, overwhelming circumstances. And then imagine you’re homeless. It doesn’t take much to recognise that we would all struggle with our mental health.

At SSJ we recognise that many of the people we support struggle with their mental health and the trauma they have often been carrying for years.

While homeless, it is so difficult to have the head space to look after what is going on in your head, which is why it is so important to prevent, relieve and end homelessness.

Very sadly if you are rough sleeping, you are more likely to die decades earlier than if you were housed. None of us really like getting old but what if getting older was not even an option? So many of these deaths are preventable.

Life can be very difficult at times. A life struggling with poor mental health is a life interrupted; creating trauma, affecting relationships, employment and physical health, which can lead to homelessness.

Many of the people SSJ supports struggle with their mental health long before they became homeless. To prevent or relieve homelessness, we must all come together as a community to enable those who struggle to have the confidence and opportunity to gain help. SSJ can help.

Poor mental health and homelessness are so often intertwined. The support SSJ offers enables someone to start to deal with it. We can prevent homelessness but we can’t do it alone. As we mark World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day on 10th October, let’s take action.
