Southampton Street Pastors Caring, Listening and Helping

Street Pastors are on patrol in Southampton city centre from 10.30pm to 4am on Friday and Saturday nights offering reassurance, safety and support through listening, caring for and helping anyone who needs it. We are well known for looking after those who are vulnerable through too much drink and we often defuse violent situations as we chat and give out sweets. We are also in the Millbrook area o

n a Saturday evening from 6pm to 10pm along with communities around three of our secondary schools, namely Upper Shirley High, Redbridge Community School & Cantell which we patrol on a Wednesday afternoon. Since the first lockdown in March 2020 we have been conducting afternoon patrols in the city centre on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

We had such a wonderful time over our spring training with people from all over the region. 🧢

We spent time thinking about how to pray with people on the streets, how to assist someone who is struggling with addiction to alcohol or drugs, and so many other important areas of care and support.

We are so grateful to see all these called people stepping out to bless many on the streets with compassion, kindness, and hope. 🙏💙

We were honoured to welcome the Lord Mayor James Baillie on patrol with us — a real privilege to share the work of Street Pastors.

After the evening, he shared:

"What was amazing was the welcome that they received as we went round. People out for the night regularly stopped us to say how Street Pastors made a difference or had helped them, and to keep going.

The other side of the patrol was also really important to experience. The help and care they gave people sleeping on the streets was exceptional. From a hot drink/noodles, to directions to relevant services, to even just a friendly conversation, it made such a difference to each person we met. One of my favourite parts was when one of the men we met began preaching and prayed with us. One of the few possessions he had with him was his bible."

Last week we joined others across the city for a moving service remembering those who have died while experiencing homelessness.
Each candle lit represented a precious life, valued and loved by God.

We paused, we prayed, we remembered — and we affirmed our commitment to being a compassionate presence on our streets.
