The heat warnings in place across our area mean that the risk of outdoor fire is extremely high, not just out in the countryside, but also in the greenspaces within our towns and cities.

If you're meeting friends on the Common, planning a picnic in your local park, or taking a stroll on the beach, we ask that you help us prevent devastating fires.

Campfires and bonfires are banned in certain locations, so check local guidance, and think twice before lighting.

Ensure smoking materials are fully extinguished and that you take your litter home with you.

Good morning everyone,

‼Please can you help? We cannot post in any Facebook Community Groups - please can you share this post to your local groups, so we can reach more residents 🙏

Today while on cycle patrol I visited our fantastic Community Speedwatch (CSW) Team, while they were out conducting a road side session. CSW is run by residents from the local community. Our fantastic CSW team cover the whole of the Hedge End Sector – Hedge End, West End, Botley, Bursledon, Netley and Hamble.

Today the maximum speed recorded was 49 mph, but there were multiple cars doing over 40 mph in a 30 mph limit. Being hit by a car at 40 mph versus 30 mph marks the critical difference between survivable, non-fatal injuries and a drastically higher risk of severe trauma or death, driven by a near-doubling of kinetic energy.

A VERY BIG THANK YOU to the new residents / volunteers that have recently joined the team and to the long standing members - we are very grateful for your time and efforts to help improve the safety of the roads.

But we still need more volunteers to join this amazing team! Can you spare just a few hours a month? Or do you know anyone who can?

Please use this link to complete the CSW Application form - https://orlo.uk/2zcXN

Whilst CSW is an educational scheme, the data that’s collected, is then shared with our Neighbourhood police officers and the Roads Policing Unit, so they know where is best to allocate enforcement resources.

Speeding is one of the ‘Fatal Four’ - these are the four poor driving habits, that pose the greatest risk of leading to a serious or fatal collision – so we will continue to do what we can, to target those who speed. If you are not speeding, you have nothing to worry about. And please remember the speed limit is not a target to achieve – it is the maximum speed you should be driving on that road.

Morning,

We are aware of an unauthorised encampment on the field next to Weston Sailing Club. The land is owned by Southampton City Council, who are also aware and will take any necessary action.

Many Thanks.
