We’ve had a lot of messages this week from holiday let owners asking about fire safety – which makes sense with so many places getting booked up for the summer.

If you rent out a property, even just occasionally, you’re legally required to have a fire risk assessment in place. It’s part of making sure your guests are safe and that you’re meeting your responsibilities under fire safety law.

You should also make sure things like smoke alarms, fire blankets, and escape routes are all up to scratch – and while PAT testing (portable appliance testing) isn’t a legal requirement, it’s strongly recommended and often needed for insurance.
