A royal day fit for a Healthcare Hero! 👑

Shane Innes, Team Lead and Senior Occupational Therapist, and winner of the Annual CARE Award category at our last Healthcare Hero Awards, attended the Royal Garden Party earlier this month.

Shane said, "This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so I am very grateful to the Trust for putting my name forward. To see behind the walls of Buckingham Palace was an amazing experience, and to be in the presence of the Royal family was very humbling. Meeting other attendees who have done so many wonderful things in their communities was also very inspiring."

Congratulations Shane! 💙

People walking along Castlehold Lane in Newport, Isle of Wight, may have noticed something bright and eye-catching appearing on the side of the Newport Health and Wellbeing Centre in recent days. 🌻

A life-size reproduction of Vincent van Gogh’s famous Sunflowers painting is now on display as part of the National Gallery’s Art on Your Doorstep trail, which has transformed Newport into an open-air gallery featuring 18 famous artworks across the town. Newport is one of just seven locations across the UK chosen to host the project in 2026, making it a proud moment for the town and the wider Island community.

Known for its warmth, colour and sense of positivity, the artwork now sits alongside a building dedicated to supporting people’s mental health, wellbeing and community care right in the heart of Newport.

The Newport Health and Wellbeing Centre was created to bring health and wellbeing services closer to the community, making support more visible, accessible and connected within the town centre. The arrival of Sunflowers adds another layer to that, creating a space that sparks conversation, curiosity and reflection for people passing by each day.

The exhibition will remain in Newport until October and is free for everyone to enjoy.

Today, on International Clinical Trials Day, we’re sharing Larry and Rita’s story and highlighting the importance of clinical research in improving care and creating hope for the future 💙

Larry has been taking part in the MARC clinical trial for the Alzheimer’s disease drug lecanemab (Leqembi) since 2020. In this film from Alzheimer's Research UK, Larry and Rita speak openly about their experience of participating in research and why clinical trials matter.

Their story highlights the importance of early diagnosis, listening to lived experience, and encouraging more people to take part in research. Clinical trials are essential in helping researchers better understand conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and develop potential new treatments for future generations.

Thank you to every patient, participant, researcher and healthcare team contributing to clinical research across the NHS and beyond.

18/05/2026

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Suzanne Rankin as the new Chief Executive of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Suzanne will be taking up the role in September, following current CEO Ron Shields, who is retiring in July after a remarkable 46-year NHS career. We thank Ron for his leadership and contribution to local healthcare during his time at the Trust.

Suzanne, who began her career as a nurse in the Royal Navy, brings a wealth of senior leadership experience across multiple health and care roles, and a real passion for leading integrated health and care systems. Suzanne has a strong focus on addressing the wider determinants of health and wellbeing, building strong partnerships and supporting resilient communities – which aligns closely with the Trust’s aims and ambitions.

Suzanne will be coming to the Trust from her current role as Chief Executive of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. As a previous Chief Executive of Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Surrey, and a Hampshire resident herself, Suzanne has experience of both leading healthcare services and living in the region.

Suzanne said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Trust and the wider Hampshire and Isle of Wight health and care system at such an important time. Together we have a golden opportunity to bring real benefits for local people across the county and the Island. This area has always been my home and it will be a privilege to lead the healthcare services provided to the communities my family and I are part of.”

Arrangements are now being made to ensure a smooth and continuous leadership following Ron’s retirement in July and ahead of welcoming Suzanne to the role in September.
