Hamble Lifeboat

Hamble Lifeboat Independent Lifeboat Service ‘Saving Lives Since 1968’, volunteer accredited for search and rescue.

Hamble Lifeboat was formed in 1968, as the Southampton Water Inshore Rescue Service (Hamble Rescue), by local residents in response to the increasing number of casualties occurring in Southampton Water and the Rivers Hamble, Itchen and Test (19 deaths in one year).

Yesterday was a very special day for both Southampton & Hamble Lifeboat Crews as we were invited to the 804th Mayor Making ceremony at the O2 Guildhall in Southampton.

This formal ceremony is steeped in civic history and provided a wonderful insight into the proud city of Southampton, it’s people, it’s values and it’s wonderful volunteers.

We were honoured that the new Lady Lord Mayor Pat Evemy passed on the excellent news that our new Southampton Lifeboat was to be one of her three chosen charities for 2026/7, a wonderful endorsement of the work of our lifesaving volunteers.

A special day in a special place, with some truly special people.

We’re proud to share the combined 2025 operational statistics from the National Independent Lifeboat Association (NILA) highlighting the work carried out by independent lifeboat stations across the UK and Ireland.

NILA represents and supports independent lifeboat organisations, providing a collective voice, promoting best practice, encouraging collaboration, and helping stations continue delivering lifesaving services within their local communities. Unlike centrally funded services, independent lifeboats rely heavily on volunteers, donations, fundraising, and community support to remain operational.

The combined figures for 2025 demonstrate just how vital independent lifeboats are, with thousands of volunteer hours dedicated to search and rescue, assisting people in danger, supporting emergency services, and helping keep our waterways safe.

As proud members of NILA, Hamble Lifeboat are honoured to stand alongside so many dedicated crews and organisations committed to saving lives at sea and on our inland waterways.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers, supporters, fundraisers, and partner organisations who make all this possible

A huge thank you to Miles from EFE Consultancy and Steve from Swift Fix for very kindly loaning us a very large trailer for the Netley Boat Jumble at Royal Victoria Country Park.

We’d also like to thank all the businesses and individuals who donated items and supported us across the weekend. We met loads of interesting folk and, thanks to everyone’s generosity, raised nearly £3,000 for Hamble Lifeboat ! Thanks also to all the volunteers who ran the stall Jake, Ian, Alex, Pete Brown, Pete Jack, Kirsty and Grenville

On Wednesday, Hamble Lifeboat coxswain Peter Brown BEM and his wife Alison were honoured to attend the King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, alongside more than 2,000 guests from across the UK, the services and the Commonwealth.

In attendance were King Charles III and Queen Camilla, together with Anne, Princess Royal, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.

Peter said it was an amazing experience to be surrounded by so many deserving people at such a special occasion. He particularly enjoyed the pomp and ceremony of the day, adding that it felt “so typically British” to see members of the Royal Family freely mingling with guests throughout the afternoon.

Thank you to NCI - Calshot Tower & Stone Point for accommodating two of our crew on Saturday and then again on Sunday . It was great to visit and see first-hand the fantastic service these volunteers provide, keeping a constant watch over the Solent ! And what a view from the Tower ! an incredible vantage point across one of the busiest and most interesting stretches of water on the south coast. Always good to catch up with fellow SAR colleagues. Thank you again for the warm welcome.
