Hamble Lifeboat

Hamble Lifeboat Independent Lifeboat Service ‘Saving Lives Since 1968’, volunteer accredited for search and rescue.

Hamble Lifeboat was formed in 1968, as the Southampton Water Inshore Rescue Service (Hamble Rescue), by local residents in response to the increasing number of casualties occurring in Southampton Water and the Rivers Hamble, Itchen and Test (19 deaths in one year).

The Hamble Regatta - What a great day! A fantastic turnout, lots of fun, the weather held off and, most importantly, we raised a great amount for Hamble Lifeboat!

Huge thanks to all our volunteers, today's Lifeboat crew, everyone who came down to say hello, the organisers: Hamble Valley Regatta and the Southampton Salty Sea Dogs for all their support.

Brilliant day all round! 👏❤️

Welcome to the family, Southampton Lifeboat! Today marks a very special moment for our lifeboat family as we officially welcome Southampton Lifeboat Adrian Rann into service.

Based at Southampton Water Activities Centre, the new lifeboat is an important extension of the work of Hamble Lifeboat and our shared commitment to saving lives on the water. It gives us a dedicated presence in Southampton and the ability to respond quickly across the River Itchen, River Test and Southampton Water.

The Adrian Rann carries a very special legacy. Adrian was a close friend, a committed supporter and someone whose generosity and belief in our lifeboat mission made a lasting difference. Naming this lifeboat in his honour means that legacy will continue through every launch, every rescue and every life saved.

Our new Southampton crew have been training since February, developing detailed knowledge of their operational area; from Redbridge Causeway on the River Test, through Southampton Docks, to Cobden Bridge on the River Itchen. When tasked, the crew will be able to reach any point within their operational area within 20 minutes, giving them the best possible opportunity to make a difference when time matters most.

Today’s naming ceremony at SWAC was a proud moment for everyone involved, bringing together the new crew, supporters, partners, dignitaries and members of the local marine community.

From all of us at Hamble Lifeboat, welcome to the family, Southampton Lifeboat.

We’re incredibly proud to have you with us and look forward to seeing the difference you will make in the years ahead.

Every year we produce a Hamble Lifeboat calendar, and we are now putting together our 2027 edition! We're looking for some local photographs that really capture life on and around the local area. Whether it's Hamble or Southampton Lifeboats in action, sailing on the Solent, a local watersports event, or simply a great shot of the River Hamble, River Itchen or local coastline, we'd love to see what you've got.
If we choose your photograph, you'll receive a free calendar, a credit alongside your image, and we'll make sure you're credited (with a link where possible) whenever we feature it on our socials.

We're also looking for local businesses who would like to support the calendar by sponsoring a month. Sponsorship is just £50, with your logo or advert appearing alongside your chosen month. It's a great way to support your local independent lifeboat charity while giving your business a little local exposure too.

If you'd like to submit a photo or find out more about sponsoring a month, just send us a message. We'd love to hear from you, and we can't wait to see your favourite shots of our wonderful corner of the Solent.

At just after midnight last night, Hamble Lifeboat was paged to assist a person in the water. That call marked our 100th callout of the year.

100 callouts by the beginning of August is a remarkable achievement - although it’s not a number we celebrate. Every one represents someone who has needed help on the water, and the worry and distress that comes with it.

What we can be incredibly proud of is the response.

The volunteers who give their time and are ready to answer the pager, whatever the hour. The professional crews and emergency services we work alongside. And the teamwork that allows us to get out on the water and help people when they need it most.

To have already responded to 100 incidents this year shows just how much our crew has been called upon. And, importantly, how many people have been there to answer that call.

Last night’s job had a good outcome, and as we headed back to the station at around 1:30am, this was the view.

100 callouts. A huge amount of work from an incredible group of volunteers.

And it’s only August.

Well... that's almost a wrap on another fantastic Cowes Week! Here's a nice little Hamble moment from earlier this week. As one of the Racing Yachts were approaching the finish line, our crew couldn't resist giving her a wave... mainly because she happens to be owned and skippered by one of our very own Hamble Lifeboat crew!

If you're heading over to Cowes tonight for the final celebrations and fireworks, have a brilliant evening. Just remember the trip home is often the busiest part of the day ! It'll be dark, there'll be plenty of boats making their way back across the Solent, so take it steady, keep a good lookout and don't be in too much of a rush to get home.

And if you spot Hamble Lifeboat out and about tonight, don't worry - we're not coming to spoil the party! We'll be on patrol to help make sure everyone gets home safely.

Enjoy the fireworks, have a great last night of Cowes Week, and we'll see you on the water.
