The Steamship Shieldhall is the largest working steam ship in Britain. As a passenger you too can experience the golden age of steam by booking on an excursion or visiting her in Southampton. You can hire the whole ship or join us for an excursion. You can relax in one of the quietest, smoothest ships on the sea. You can visit the engine room and bridge. Smell the steam or the polish or both! Mean

while, you can still hire the ship for parties, weddings or meetings alongside the berth in Southampton.

You asked for it and here it is! Live on YouTube now: Steamship Shieldhall steam engines ASMR.

With the start of the 2026 sailing season came an avalanche of comments saying the same thing: ‘We need an uninterrupted video of the engines to listen to.’

On the ships very first public cruise, we set out to do it and here’s the end result.

Two videos, one including footage of the engines, the other showing a black screen for those who just need the audio with no distractions.

However you use this audio, be it for concentration, sleep, or otherwise, we hope you enjoy!

Stand by your stations!

A massive thank you to Capt. Jon Whitford for sharing this clip with us from this weekend just passed. Front row seats to training exercises never looked so good!

From Southampton to Auckland! 🌍

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome Rory Bloom from the steam tug William C Daldy on board Shieldhall for a day’s volunteering.

Rory is a member of the Daldy’s crew in Auckland, New Zealand, and it was a pleasure to reciprocate the warm welcome that Shieldhall volunteers always receive whenever visiting Auckland.

The William C Daldy is actually around 20 years older than Shieldhall, but both vessels were built in the same Lobnitz shipyard in Scotland and share the same style of boilers and engine — a remarkable connection between two historic steamships on opposite sides of the world.

The photos show Rory aboard Shieldhall, along with Shieldhall crew member Phil Stephens during his visit to the Daldy in Auckland in 2024.

Auckland may be 11,400 miles away, but the preservation of historic steamships continues to bring people together across the globe. 🚢
