Steamship Shieldhall We're the largest working steam ship in Britain! A member of the National Historic Fleet she serves as a sea going tribute to Britain's maritime heritage.

The Steamship Shieldhall is the largest working steam ship in Britain. As a passenger you too can experience the golden age of steam by booking on an excursion or visiting her in Southampton. You can hire the whole ship or join us for an excursion. You can relax in one of the quietest, smoothest ships on the sea. You can visit the engine room and bridge. Smell the steam or the polish or both! Meanwhile, you can still hire the ship for parties, weddings or meetings alongside the berth in Southampton.

In 1955, Shieldhall entered the service of the Glasgow Sludge Fleet.

She would go on to sail the Clyde for the next twenty one years, carrying waste to sea for dumping and passengers on her decks for a wonderful day out.

Could you be part of the Shieldhall family?

We're looking for new volunteers to join our friendly Customer Experience team aboard Steamship Shieldhall in Southampton, and we'd love to hear from you!

Whether it's welcoming passengers, helping with events, preparing and serving food in our galley or looking after our guests during a cruise, there's plenty to get involved with.

No previous experience is needed, as full training will be provided. All we ask is that you're friendly, enthusiastic and happy to lend a hand!

Volunteering with Shieldhall is a great way to meet new people, make friends and enjoy being part of a team. We're also very proud to have received The King's Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of our volunteers' work.

You'll have the chance to meet our volunteers, enjoy a tour of the ship and find out what a typical day volunteering aboard Shieldhall is really like.
