Bishy woods

Bishy woods Stoke Park Woods area contains 61% woodland and 39% arable land. It is home to many species, including the rare quaking grass.

Originally these woods were owned by the Bishop of Wi******er. King John of England hunted these woods in 1205. In 1540 they were licensed by King Henry VIII as a deer hunt enclosed by fences. They were purchased by the Forestry Commission in 1948 and are now a community woodland. They are managed by the commission to produce wood for paper pulp and timber

Gin Tidridge, standing for re-election to Eastleigh Borough Council for Bishopstoke Ward as an Independent candidate

It’s been a privilege to serve Bishopstoke Ward as one its three Eastleigh Borough Councillors since winning the local elections in 2018. I stood because I was really concerned that nobody seemed to be listening to local residents who, like me, felt that the Council’s proposals to build over 5,000 houses north of Bishopstoke and Fair Oak was simply destructive. I was so relieved when the Planning Inspector agreed that there was insufficient evidence and asked that this development proposal be deleted from Eastleigh’s Local Plan.

I live in Bishopstoke, I work in Chandlers Ford. I’m a keen (but very slow) runner and I love exploring the local trails with my running club.

I’ve continued to oppose development that would be destructive to the community and to the environment. I’ve supported protection of Bishy Beach, funding for the Memorial Hall and for restoring The Planney. I want to see work to help Stoke Park Woods recover from the increase in visitors. I’ve also been campaigning for improvements to The Hub (actually within the neighbouring Local Area Committee’s boundary), especially to address the lack of public toilets there.

If you’d like to find out more about Bishopstoke & Fair Oak Independents, our website is https://bishopstokeindependents.org/ and page is . I try to keep political posting to this page and my own page at so that campaigning is transparent.
