Yesterday was a sad day and the end of an era. I’m talking about designing and making my last few frames for my customers at my unit at WHA Industrial Estate Allington Lane West End Southampton.

I’ve been there 11 years working in both the heat and cold of an old prefab home built to house for families in Southampton after the war. I took my last walk into work taking in the sites one last time. I posted a sign in the window stating that I’m now permanently closed at this location.

The reason for the closure is that we are moving house. Well, bungalow actually! We are massively downsizing and moving to a bungalow in Stubbington near Fareham. The GOOD NEWS however for all those who might still require framing, is that after a short break and a holiday I will be settling up again and working from a small unit in our back garden.

So for now it’s packing, packing, packing, move house on Friday.
Then packing, packing, packing move workshop later in July.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to all my customers in supplying me with an ever varied array of art, photographs, memorabilia, artefacts, sports shirts and textiles. I hope that some of you will want to visit me at my new set up and I have the added bonus of only being a 20 minute walk from the beach.

Well I bought one! A Takker gun to hang mostly pictures of course. I can report it’s a brilliant idea. Very easy to use. I put up this little piece in seconds just hanging it on the actual pin. You can hang various hooks on it for larger items.

I’m going to be a grandma!

Time then to hand down Elliot’s embroidery that I completed to celebrate his birth in 1992. I didn’t know then that I was later to become a picture framer. Now I’m able to remove it from its old shop bought basic dark wood frame and refresh and renew. A blackcore mount outlines the image imitating the pillow stitching. A pale green bevelled frame is soft and will coordinate with the decor in the nursery. With Ultra Vue 92% uv protective glass it will be protected for another 30 years. It’s lovely to be able to gift such a personal piece of art.

Well it just had to be done….”playing with Neon colours”. It also helps that the customer agreed with the colourful framing design although their poster by Broccoli Man, Adrian Boswell was in itself full of colour. A red neon 5mm double mount with white outer is completed by a narrow Centrado green neon frame. It’ll certainly make an impact displayed on any wall in their house.

As soon as I saw this piece of art by Icelandic artist Kristjana S. Williams I thought it would give it a quirky look to set it in a circular frame. I suggested this to my customer who liked the idea.

As a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild I had attended the art & framing expo in September last year. Here I had seen a company TA Interiors who made contemporary bespoke circular and oval frames in any colour you wished. They will also cut specialty glass and backboards to fit the frame.
I made enquires regarding the profile of the frame and a colour match to the artwork. A circular mount was cut in a vivid turquoise. It was finished off with Art Glass anti reflective 70% uv protection glazing enhancing the vibrant colours in the artwork.

A striking piece of artwork now with a very individual bespoke frame.
