Today marks the 1st day of Action for Brain Injury (ABI) Week, a time for us to raise awareness of brain injury and its wider impact.

The theme this year is loneliness and isolation. In January 2026, Headway UK launched a survey into the levels of isolation following a brain injury to help shape the 2026 campaign.

The results are striking, with 87% of those brain injury survivors and 85% of carers responding feeling lonely - despite not feeling lonely before the injury.

At Headway Southampton and Wessex we provide a Day Centre with AM & PM activities & regular on-line and in-person support groups.

Lovely to attend the award presentation of our friends at Testwood Lakes Sailability today receiving their King’s Award for Voluntary Service from the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.

Our service users at Headway Southampton really do love their sessions on the lakes; the facilities are amazing and are run by such a dedicated team of volunteers who supervise the sessions. This includes our own service user Karl who has volunteered at the lakes for many years.

Congratulations to you Karl & all the other volunteers from us all!

Our service users are working super hard in the kitchen this week to sell some homemade fresh bakes 🧁

Today we attended Agincare conference, Injury to Independence, as 1 of the guest speakers, highlighting and raising awareness of the work we do at Headway Southampton and West Wessex & Headway UK.

It was a fantastic event with some great speakers across a broad range of services. Was lucky to have Ben in attendance as well who was able to talk first hand of his journey and experience of support from our service.

On Friday evening we were invited to the 2026 Freemasons cheque presentation evening at Masonic Hall, Southampton. It was a wonderful evening with many charities receiving cheques from lodge representatives that nominated them & given the opportunity to talk about their work for 5 minutes in front of the South Central Freemasons and the Lord Mayor of Southampton. We were nominated by the Wilfred Attenborough Lodge and received a £250 cheque from the lovely Nick towards our work.

Did you know that after Lottery, the Freemasons are the 2nd biggest funders to charities.
