Training like this helps soldiers maintain the high standards required to operate safely and effectively, while also building teamwork and confidence on the ranges.

This weekend, soldiers from 106 Regiment Royal Artillery sharpened their skills by directing artillery fire onto virtual enemy positions using state-of-the-art simulation.

Although Air Defence is our primary role within the Royal Artillery, learning how to locate and defeat the enemy from an observation point remains a key battle-winning skill for every Gunner.

The team also experienced other modern capabilities, including simulated firing of the 105mm Light Gun and training in FPV drone warfare — showing how today’s Gunners combine traditional skills with cutting-edge technology.

With overseas exercises, challenging training and new opportunities constantly developing, it’s an exciting time to become a Gunner in 106 Regiment Royal Artillery.

WO1 (RSM) Price formally handed over the appointment of Regimental Sergeant Major, 106 Regiment Royal Artillery, to WO1 (RSM) Wheeler on 27 January 2026. The officers and soldiers of the Regiment thank WO1 Price for his outstanding service and leadership and wish WO1 Wheeler every success in his new appointment.

Lest we forget 🌹

It was an honour for 457 Battery to lead this year’s Remembrance Day Parade at Netley, Southampton, alongside a few of the remaining World War Two servicemen and hundreds of young people from local youth and Scout groups.

Together, we stood united in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice — for it is through their courage and selflessness that we have our today.

We will remember them.

Opportunities in the Army Reserve:

The British Army Reserve offers so much more than most people realise. Alongside their civilian careers as an accountant and a carpenter, these Reservists, living in Southampton and the Isle of Wight, stepped forward when called upon and deployed to Iraq.

Serving shoulder-to-shoulder with their Regular counterparts, they played a vital role in a little-known operation aimed at maintaining peace and stability against terror organisations in the Middle East.

It was only right and fitting that the award of their medals was presented by the Southampton City Mayor on Tuesday 9th September, in recognition of their service to their country.
