Friends of Peartree Green Local Nature Reserve

Friends of Peartree Green Local Nature Reserve This page is for anyone interested in Peartree Green, a local nature reserve since 2017. There is a wonderful cafe just across the road, The Crafty Bug Cafe.

We're a friendly group working together to encourage more people to visit and look after the Green, a local nature reserve since 2017. We regularly organise educational and conservation events, such as butterfly hunts, bioblitzes, fungus forays, litter picks, and conservation work days clearing scrub.. We encourage visitors to walk, cycle or use public transport if they are able to. The reserve is

a ten-minute walk from Woolston railway station, and City Red bus number 13 runs along Peartree Avenue. The nearest cycle racks are on Bridge Rd outside the Co-op, but there are plans to install more on the space between Bridge Rd and Peartree Rd. You can cut through from the Co-op along Tankerville and Defender Roads, or along Ailsa Lane. We have several benches on the reserve, and our main circular path has been resurfaced to make it easier to get around. Coming soon are two new noticeboards, which will feature our new map showing key features including benches. Please check their page for opening hours and events. To join our mailing list, please use this link https://mailchi.mp/aaad9b7a7df6/news-and-information

If you'd like to become a member or get involved in the committee, please get in touch. We currently have a vacancy for a publicity officer and secretary.

The pictured mobile phone device was discovered at Sea Road, Peartree Green on Saturday 28th February during the litter pick. It appears to be undamaged and in working order. Does anyone recognise this phone or know anyone who may have lost a phone on the Green recently?

Great work by the open spaces team at SCC in cutting back the foliage along many of the paths to enhance & protect access. 2026 will be the 10th anniversary since the Green was awarded local nature reserve status and we will be conducting a survey to understand what residents appreciate about this space and to support future funding applications.

Great work by our rangers team at Southampton city council in creating a perch point seat just down from Phil’s hill. Hopefully the team can add a few more when the tree trunks become available.

Great news that Southampton City Council has approved funding for new play equipment on Peartree Green that will hopefully be installed later this year. This will replace the existing aging equipment and give local families a great place to enjoy and play.
