🚠 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CLIFF LIFT 🚠

This August Bank Holiday, Southend Cliff Lift celebrates an incredible 114 years of creating memories 🙌

Long before the lift was installed, visitors travelled down the cliff on a moving walkway, a conveyor belt with rope handrails that connected Clifton Terrace to the seafront. The link has been part of Southend life for generations, and the Cliff Lift continues that tradition today.

The lift has seen many changes over the years, including a major refurbishment in 2009, and now its story is being proudly showcased at the Southend Pier Museum.

The Cliff Lift volunteers and the keen folk at the Pier Museum have worked together to create a fantastic display featuring historic photos, technical details, and the fascinating history behind this much loved landmark.

Planning to watch the eclipse from the end of Southend Pier this evening?

🚂 Pier trains depart Shore End on the hour and half past the hour. To ensure you reach the Pier Head in time for the event, you'll need to catch the 6:00pm or 6:30pm train at the latest.

⚠️ We expect trains to be extremely busy, so please arrive early and allow plenty of time to travel to the end of the Pier. Late arrivals may be unable to reach the Pier Head before the eclipse begins.

🕶️ Eclipse Glasses Update: We have now sold out of our current stock of eclipse glasses. However, we're expecting a final delivery this afternoon and will have a very limited number available to purchase from 4:00pm, exclusively for Eclipse over the Estuary customers.
