π HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CLIFF LIFT π
This August Bank Holiday, Southend Cliff Lift celebrates an incredible 114 years of creating memories π
Long before the lift was installed, visitors travelled down the cliff on a moving walkway, a conveyor belt with rope handrails that connected Clifton Terrace to the seafront. The link has been part of Southend life for generations, and the Cliff Lift continues that tradition today.
The lift has seen many changes over the years, including a major refurbishment in 2009, and now its story is being proudly showcased at the Southend Pier Museum.
The Cliff Lift volunteers and the keen folk at the Pier Museum have worked together to create a fantastic display featuring historic photos, technical details, and the fascinating history behind this much loved landmark.
Plan your next visit to the Southend Pier Museum soon to check out the display and celebrate Southendβs heritage ποΈ
