An Amber Heat Health Alert is currently in place across the East of England, including Essex, from 9am on Monday 3 August until 9am on Wednesday 5 August 2026.

During the high temperatures, it is important to take simple steps to stay safe and well.

Stay safe by:

💧 Drinking plenty of water
🏠 Keeping your home as cool as possible
🌳 Avoiding direct sun during the hottest part of the day
👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Checking in on older relatives, neighbours and friends
⚠️ Knowing the signs of heat exhaustion

Southend-on-Sea City Council extends its heartfelt thanks to Chief Fire Officer Rick Hylton, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and all partner agencies for their exceptional response to the recent fires at Highlands Farm and other incidents across Southend and wider Essex.

We are especially mindful of the 20 firefighters injured while tackling the Highlands Farm blaze and wish them all a swift and full recovery.
