We know that life as an immigrant can be challenging. A different language, a different culture, different systems, and sometimes no family or close friends nearby to turn to.

We also know that behind some closed doors, there are stories that nobody talks about.

Domestic abuse doesn't always leave bruises. Sometimes it's fear, control, humiliation, isolation, or slowly taking away someone's independence and self-worth.

And it can happen to both women and men.

💔 **That's why we're asking you for one thing.**

Please don't ask someone experiencing abuse:
❌ "Why are you still with him?"
❌ "Why don't you leave her?"
❌ "Why do you put up with it?"

Instead, ask:
❤️ "How can I help you?"
❤️ "What do you need right now?"
❤️ "Is there anything I can do for you?"

Let's not add more guilt or shame to someone who may already be living with fear, uncertainty or helplessness every single day.

Residents are invited to join the Royal British Legion, South Holland District Council and community groups in commemorating Remembrance Sunday on Sunday 8 November 2026.

The annual event, led each year by the Spalding branch of the Royal British Legion, will provide an opportunity for the community to come together to remember and honour those who have served and sacrificed in the Armed Forces.

The day includes a parade from Spalding Market Place to Ayscoughfee Hall Gardens. Following a service and the laying of wreaths at Luytens Memorial, the parade will then march back to the Market Place.

Veterans, Standard Bearers, cadets, scouts, guides, brownies, cubs and local dignitaries will all play an important role in the commemorations.

The details for the parade are:

• The parade will set off from Market Place at 10.45am, travelling over High Bridge and along Churchgate before entering Ayscoughfee Hall Gardens.

• The service will begin at approximately 10.57am and will be led by the vicar of Spalding St Mary and St Nicolas.

• Following the national two-minute silence at 11am, wreaths will be laid in memory of those who gave their lives in service to their country.

• Following the service, the parade will march back to Market Place where commemorations will close.

Cllr Jan Whitbourn, Chairlady of South Holland District Council, said: “Remembrance Sunday is a time for our community to come together and remember the men and women who have served and sacrificed in the Armed Forces.

“The commemorations see people of all ages take part to pay their respects, from veterans and service families to local groups, cadets, scouts, guides and young people. Their presence helps ensure that the sacrifices and values we remember today are passed on to future generations.
“Please do join us as we stand together in honour of all those who have served our country.”

Road closures will be in place to support the event. Broad Street will close from 8am, with additional roads along the parade route closing from approximately 10.25am.

All roads are expected to reopen by 1pm, although they may reopen earlier if it is safe to do so.
