🎨🚌 Spennymoor’s bus shelters have been given a bright new look thanks to a fantastic community arts project celebrating local history, heritage and people; whilst encouraging people to use public transport across the region.

Spennymoor Town Council was approached by the North East Combined Authority and Durham County Council, to bring together five local artists, schools and community groups to create vibrant installations across five bus shelters in the town.

Each shelter was chosen for its close links to nearby schools, community centres, clubs and organisations, making sure the artwork reflects the communities it serves.

Artists delivered workshops with local pupils and community groups, gathering ideas, images and stories that inspired their final designs.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, and to Lonely Tower Film and Media for capturing the story of the project along the way. Keep an eye out for the artwork next time you’re travelling through Spennymoor! 👀✨

Bus Shelters:

Spennymoor - The designs in this bus shelter were created by artist Nocciola the Drawer with help and ideas from the pupils of King Street Primary School and the local community.

Tudhoe - The designs in this bus shelter were created by artist Sarah Carlton with help and ideas from the pupils of Tudhoe Colliery Primary School and the local community.

Byers Green - The designs in this bus shelter were created by artist Jackie Stonehouse with help and ideas from the pupils of Byers Green Primary School.

Kirk Merrington - The designs in this bus shelter were created by artist Olga Ayre with help and ideas from the pupils of Kirk Merrington Primary School and Kirk Merrington Community Centre.
