Yesterday (Saturday 30th May) the sun was shining and some of the crew of St Abbs Lifeboat attend the Coldingham Brave Bayers water safety on the Bay ⛱️ event at Coldingham beach
It was a privilege to be invited to take part along with our water safety partners RNLI Lifeguards Scotland, Eyemouth Coastguard, RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat & Borders Water Rescue Team to send out a water safety message to the general public. Beach goers could watch a live joint rescue demonstration with all agencies taking part, along with water safety advice on float to live and staying safe in and around water. It was a great day and a good opportunity to show how all agencies work together in an emergency. Thank you to Coldingham Brave Bayers & RNLI Lifeguards for setting this up.

This afternoon we felt quite overwhelmed to receive a £1,667.70 donation from the Border Vintage Agricultural Association, raised during their recent tractor run. Thank you so much to all the amazing drivers and supporters along the route who raised this incredible sum. We have had a lovely day at the rally watching the vintage vehicles and marvelling at a display of deconstructing and reconstructing a land rover in 5 minutes! Thank you all so much.

We're so excited to have been asked to attend and so very grateful to all their members who are fundraising for us this year. If you're in the Kelso area tomorrow do please come and say hello. Tonight our intrepid crew practiced capsize drills, various types of man overboard recovery, search patterns, steering failure and coastal familiarisation. An excellent training session, and the lifeboat has returned ready for service.

Tonight at 18:45 our crew were paged by Aberdeen Coastguard to assist two kayakers in difficulty near rocks localy known as Jocks Nose. Our Lifeboat was on the water and leaving the harbour less than ten minutes later. We successfully picked up the casualties and returned them back to the harbour safe and well, where they were met by Eyemouth Coastguard. Thank you to the crew and shore crew that turned out, and especially to our supporters who make this possible. We couldn't do this without you.
Remember if you see someone in difficulty in the water ring 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

This evening our crew had an excellent training session practicing capsize drills. It is essential that all crew know how to deal with this type of extreme emergency situation and can recover the boat and climb back on board successfully. A potential new recruit also went out in the boat to observe how training is done.

Yesterday the crew took advantage of the low tide to practice a low water launch. This is done in a different sequence to a standard launch but enables us to launch at any state of tide allowing us to be on call 24/7.
Followed by an exercise on navigation and search patterns, with some emergency drills thrown in for good measure.
Then this morning we had a visit from Silver Endeavour who came to visit New Asgard, unfortunately conditions wouldn't allow them to land any passengers. Maybe next year.
