St Ives Town Council (the Town Council) Cares Project with Cambridge Area Bus Users have launched a new easy-to-use bus information leaflet designed to help residents and visitors make better use of local bus services and find their way by bus to key destinations.

The leaflet highlights services operating into and from St Ives Bus Station, with clear and visually engaging network maps of bus routes across the town and from surrounding towns and villages.

Inspired by the iconic London Underground map, the โ€œSt Ives Overgroundโ€ offers a simplified view of the townโ€™s bus connections, making it easier to understand routes at a glance.

Town Clerk Libby White said:
"In an age where we are actively encouraging people to choose public transport, itโ€™s vital that information is easy to access and understand. This leaflet is about giving people the confidence to try the bus, whether for the first time or more often."

The initiative aims to:
โ€ข Encourage greater use of public transport
โ€ข Improve accessibility of travel information
โ€ข Enable people who might otherwise be isolated to access work, education and leisure opportunities
โ€ข Support sustainable travel choices
โ€ข Help residents and visitors better connect with surrounding areas

The project has been delivered locally, with design and printing costs met by the Town Council. The Town Council is now approaching Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority to seek support for further initiatives.

Cambridge Area Bus Users group members in St Ives, who partnered with the Town Council to produce the booklet, emphasised the importance of clear, passenger-friendly information in increasing bus usage.

Anthony Stanton, St Ives rep. for Cambridge Area Bus Users, said:
โ€œSt Ives and surrounding areas have excellent, reliable local bus services, many of which are not well publicised nor well used. This joint effort with St Ives Town Council Cares is an important step in getting information out to local people about the range of services available to them, enabling those who would otherwise be isolated to access work, education and leisure facilities, and giving car owners choice about how they travel. Buses are free all day every day to Senior or Disabled Bus Pass holders; and for young people holding a Tiger Pass the single fare is just ยฃ1. For everyone else, the maximum fare for a single journey is currently capped at ยฃ3, whilst some operators offer daily, weekly and group tickets which may be worth enquiring about.โ€

Copies of the leaflet are available at St Ives Town Hall, Library, Norris Museum, St Ives Corn Exchange and will be distributed across the town.
