Thank you Eynesbury

Ian Taylor has been elected as the new District Councillor for St Neots Eynesbury with 1,024 votes.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to vote, everyone who stopped and talked to us over the last few weeks, and everyone who put their trust in Ian.

And thank you to the brilliant team of people who gave up so much of their time to knock on doors, deliver leaflets and help us along the way. A huge amount of hard work went into this.
But the hard work really starts now.

Ian will be getting stuck in, working hard for Eynesbury and representing the whole community.

With everything else going on this week, we thought it was worth just telling you a bit about Ian.

Not politics. Just the person

Ian is a former RAF man. He’s a Paramedic. He’s lived a life where looking after people is fairly normal. And when you look back at some of the things he’s been involved with around St Neots, there’s a bit of a pattern.

The Splash Park is probably the best example.

Ian spent nine years helping to drive the team to get that delivered.

Nine years is a long time to stick at anything. But it’s there now. Kids are running through it, families are using it, and most of them will have absolutely no idea who spent years trying to make it happen.

Which is probably as it should be.

Then there’s Willow Park.

Ian and his wife Simone got involved when residents were having problems with their water charges. Ian’s account is that the work eventually resulted in residents receiving water meters and those who had overpaid receiving refunds.

Again, not glamorous, but important!

But if you’re the person paying too much for your water, it’s not a small thing.

The other photo shows Ian taking part in a charity cycle ride to raise money for injured members of the armed services. He helps with the Poppy Appeal too.

And then he goes back to work as a Paramedic.

I think all of that probably tells you more about somebody than a long list of political promises ever could.

He’s approachable; he knows and loves the town, he understands how councils work, and he’s already spent years getting involved in the fairly unglamorous stuff that makes a place a bit better.

That’s Ian really.

He sees something that needs doing and tends to get involved.

Sometimes that means sticking with something for nine years.

Sometimes it’s helping somebody sort out their water bill.

And sometimes it’s simply giving up his own time.

None of it needs dressing up as anything more than it is.

It’s just a decent snapshot of the man.

Ian Taylor. Getting the little things done.

Not everything that matters locally makes a glamorous photograph.

This damaged BT manhole cover took several emails and around six months to get fixed.
Ian kept chasing it until it was sorted.

It's a small example, but quite a good one. A lot of local representation is simply listening, finding out who can fix something, and then not giving up until it gets done.

Ian has been doing that in Eynesbury for years.
It's one of the reasons we think he'd make such a good district councillor.

Meet Ian Taylor

Before asking people to vote for him, we thought you should know a bit about the person.

Ian is a local Paramedic who has spent years serving people in and around St Neots.

He has also helped train and mentor the next generation of Paramedics, work which saw him receive his ambulance service’s Trust Award for Respect.

That tells you rather a lot about Ian.

Public service. Looking after people. Giving something back.

Now he wants to bring that same approach to representing Eynesbury as its district councillor.

We’ll be sharing more about Ian, his priorities and why he’s standing over the coming days.

🗳️ One week to go in Eynesbury!

Next Thursday, 20 August, voters in St Neots Eynesbury will choose a new district councillor.

Our Liberal Democrat candidate is Ian Taylor, a local paramedic who has spent years serving people in and around St Neots.

Over the next week on this page, we’ll be introducing Ian in a bit more detail, talking about the things he wants to get done and sharing a bit more about the local team supporting him.

Following the Annual General Meeting of Huntingdonsgire District Counxil on 21st May, Jacquiline Hunt has been confirmed as Vice Chair of the Development Management Committee and Alan Hunt has been confirmed as Vice Chair of the Licensing Committee. Geoff Seeff will also sit on the Development Management Committee but continues his Chairmanship of the Cambridgeshire Pension Fund under the aegis of the County Council. Each councillor will of course be accessible to Eatons residents in the normal way and they intend to establish a monthly surgery at a suitable location in St Neots town centre - tbc.

Exemplified by the revelatioms about the RefUK leader's failure to declare a very large "gift" from an overseas based billionaire crypto currency trader, it is my firm belief that the lack of transparemcy regardimg political donations threatens the fabric of civil society and, for all its limitations, our democracy. The process for registering and reporting political donations needs strengthening and this is my letter on the subject published in yesterday's Times.
