Following the Annual General Meeting of Huntingdonsgire District Counxil on 21st May, Jacquiline Hunt has been confirmed as Vice Chair of the Development Management Committee and Alan Hunt has been confirmed as Vice Chair of the Licensing Committee. Geoff Seeff will also sit on the Development Management Committee but continues his Chairmanship of the Cambridgeshire Pension Fund under the aegis of the County Council. Each councillor will of course be accessible to Eatons residents in the normal way and they intend to establish a monthly surgery at a suitable location in St Neots town centre - tbc.

Pictured are the newly elected LibDem Huntingdonshire District Councillors for the Eatons, Jacquiline and Alan Hunt and Geoff Seeff together with district councillors for Priory Park Park and Little Paxton, Carole Innes and Mark Young, Great Paxton, Stephen Claffey plus St Neots County Councillors Sarah Caine and Robin Wyatt (Geoff remains a County Councillor) and organiser Ganesh Sittampalam. As a team they are ambitious for our town and will combine their wide ranging expertise and experience to promote and help deliver the physical, economic and cultural development that will create an attractive, vibrant and safe environment which we can all enjoy and in which we can take pride. They are at work already on issues such as the access and use of the Market Square and local highway improvments and we will ensure that residents are informed of the outcomes through regular reports on this site.

Exemplified by the revelatioms about the RefUK leader's failure to declare a very large "gift" from an overseas based billionaire crypto currency trader, it is my firm belief that the lack of transparemcy regardimg political donations threatens the fabric of civil society and, for all its limitations, our democracy. The process for registering and reporting political donations needs strengthening and this is my letter on the subject published in yesterday's Times.

Following the recent success of LibDem MPs promoting a Bill to re-join the EU Customs Union and Government’s recognition that Brexit has resulted in a drop of 8% in annual GDP and 18% in the level of pre-Brexit investment, Full Council on 16th December 2025 approved Geoff’ Seeff's motion for taking steps towards the UK rejoining the Single Market by investigating the specific damage to the Cambridgeshire economy and identifying local opportunities for remedial action. You can view a clip of Geoff opening the debate in this link

Go to Full Council 16th December 2025 from 3.15

Since the implementation of Brexit, Geoff, a staunch proponent of European unity and free trade as a means of avoidng conflict and increasing living standards for all, has had published in the Times a number of letters pointing out the damage and suggesting ways in which co-operation between the UL and the EU can be improved.

My other responsibility is as Chair of “The Library Presents” (“TLP”) - a programme of arts events for adult and children staged in all the libraries in Cambridgeshire including, periodically, St Neots. With my background as an enthusiastic (but less than virtuoso) musician - see clip of me on stage at this year’s Eaton Socon May Fair - and Chair over 12 years of a community arts festival in the area in which lived in London, I hope to be able bring my personal experience to bear in helping to devise new events and ensuring the financial viability of this imaginative cultural initiative.

I have not had much of an opportunity to post to FB since the May elections - recovery from the campaign, co-ordinating with new colleagues and, of course, responding to the many issues raised by residents. It would also be true to say that my responsibilities are now much more extensive and span the whole County rather than just the Eatons. I have been appointed Chair of the Cambridgeshire Pension Fund (“CPF”) which has around 1,000 employer member organisations and 100,000 current and retired individual members with nearly £5 billion of investments under management. Apart from familiarising myself with its complexities, my main pre-occupation these past few months has been the restructuring of the pool to which CPF belongs and which follows the Government’s “Fit for the Future” directive. We have to consolidate the existing pools and increase our investments in UK infrastructure and local enterprise. We have now identified a preferred partner and are now undergoing a process of due diligence with a view to finalising arrangements by 31st March 2026. I know it does not sound exciting…..but someone has to do it if the interests of our current members and indeed employees to operate our p***c service are to be attracted and retained.
If you would like more information on CPF please DM me.

Geoff Seeff has been re-elected as County Councillor for St Neots the Eatons. It was a close run thing with Reform, having deployed all its social media trickery, polling just 39 votes behind . However, Geoff looks forward to being the voice for local residents during the next few years and until a new Unitary Authority is established under the Government's reorganisation proposals.

It is also very good news that Geoff will be representing the interests of St Neots generally working alongside Liberal Democrat councillor colleagues Sarah Caine,, St Neots East, and Robin Wyatt, Priory Park and Little Paxton as well as our LibDem MP, Ian Sollom.

Liberal Democrats now have 31 councillors on the County Council and have gained full control.
