What a wonderful morning at St Neots Golf Club. Firstly, they now have 3 disabled parking spaces, which is much needed! Especially as they will be getting an Accessible toilet!!
Chairman, Steve Whitney took these fab photos and pictured here, is also the soon to be repurposed cleaners cupboard. It is going to be an excellent facility, meaning people can fully use the club for whichever purpose they are there for.

Asking Access in St Neots and club member John (pictured with myself and Steve, with Director Darren Gough) to give our lived experience and knowledge on these facilities is much appreciated. Thank you to everyone involved so far!
They also have a fab builder on board, who really knows his stuff too!

New disabled bays for Waitrose & Partners! Hurrah!

So, David Lloyd gym. Supposed to open next week right? Hmm. Well they have failed to comply with Building regulation M as expected. Earlier in the year they weren't at the point of thinking about this apparently.

As you can see from correspondence, they had no intention of installing a Changing Places. (Not a Changing room, as they thought that was the same thing! Oh dear!)

Capacity of over 350 people requires by law that a new building, particularly a leisure facility has to include a Changing Places. (I'm working on one in Peterborough for the NHS as we speak).
Apparently the capacity of our St Neots facility is 800.
I have reported this to HDCs Planning Enforcement team.
This begs the question. Have they lied about capacity?
Has HDC dropped the ball and missed a very important building
regulation? Who did their Equality Impact Assessment?

I will be taking this further!

It has been a very busy 2 weeks! I was supposed to launch the accessible shop guide for St Neots, but that is almost done, maybe another week or so.

The past 2 weeks have been full of disability access awareness, advocacy and meetings!

- Visiting a site of a soon to be Changing Places at a hospital in this area.

-Visiting Wyboston Lakes Health and Fitness Club to see the accessibility improvements and to receive a cheque from the wonderful team there, who fundraised £255 for Access in St Neots!

- Attending my regular access panel meeting for Govia Thameslink.

-Participating in a project to improve planning journeys for disabled people, particularly wheelchair users.

- Visiting Hinchingbrooke A&E to discuss making the CODU unit better accessible.

- Taking part in a review and renewal of equality and diversity policies for Cambridge City Council.

-Being interviewed live on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire about the Peterborough car park discriminatory signs.

-Pre-recording an interview for Black Cat Radio.

- 2 hospital appointments, 1 GP appointment and 2 vet visits with one of my cats!

Having lived experience is ideal and most of the time is good fun. But this weekend I will rest and recuperate!!

The downside is I can't go along today, as I've hit burnout. It's been an extremely busy week and next week will be similar.
So for once, I have to put myself first and rest today.

Thanks to everyone who cheered us on and supported our charity boat race, we raised £255.15 for Access St Neots

The aim of Access in St Neots is to bring support, advocacy and awareness for disabled and wheelchair users in St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

Every stroke of the paddle was worth it to support the incredible work Access St Neots does to make our community more accessible and inclusive for everyone.

A massive thank you to our amazing rowers, supporters, and donors who helped us make a splash for this cause! 💙
