Leigh Ingham’s statement thanks Keir Starmer for his leadership and acknowledges the public’s dissatisfaction with the Government’s first two years.
However, it is worth remembering that as a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS), Leigh Ingham has been part of the Government team throughout this period. She has supported and voted for the Government’s legislative programme and policies alongside her Labour colleagues.
Many of the issues voters have raised concerns about in recent elections - whether on the economy, public services, immigration, or the cost of living, developed while Labour has been in office, and Government MPs have collectively been responsible for those decisions.
If Labour now accepts that voters are unhappy with the direction of the country, it is reasonable to ask not only what Keir Starmer’s role was, but also what responsibility those supporting his Government, including Leigh Ingham, should take.
Voters deserve accountability from everyone involved in delivering Government policy, not just from the Prime Minister.
