Free support event coming to Biddulph for rural businesses 💼

A free workshop for Moorlands-based businesses will take place next month, giving practical advice on funding, grants and loans, and how to apply.

Hosted by us in partnership with Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, the session is designed to help rural businesses access the finance and support they need to start, grow and invest.

On the day, businesses will be able to:
✅ Explore funding options, including grants and loans
✅ Get guidance on making strong applications
✅ Speak to organisations offering business support across Staffordshire
✅ Network with other local businesses over breakfast

Exhibitors include Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, alongside other key support organisations.

Footpath in Burston reopens with new and improved footbridge ✨

A section of a popular walking route near has reopened following the installation of a new and improved footbridge.

It crosses the River Trent and forms part of the Two Saints Way connecting the villages of Sandon and Burston.

The original footbridge had to be replaced after a fallen tree knocked it into the river. This meant part of the footpath had to close while a replacement was built.

The new and improved structure has been funded by more than £100,000 from us. It has been designed to be larger and more flood-resilient, so the route can be enjoyed for many years.

With the new footbridge now in place, the closure on Footpath 36 between the River Trent and Burston Lane has been lifted and the route is once again fully open to the public 🚶‍♀️

⚠️ Surface Dressing Works Postponed

The planned surface dressing works on Newton Road, Stapenhill, have been postponed due to emergency gas works being undertaken by Cadent.

While we had hoped to continue with as much of the work as possible, ongoing investigations into a gas leak mean it is not safe for the works to proceed. We are continuing to work with Cadent so we can complete the planned maintenance works as soon as we can.

Unplanned utility company works continue to have a significant impact on our highways maintenance programme, often resulting in schemes being cancelled or rearranged at very short notice. We are putting pressure on Cadent to fix this leak as quickly as possible.

We appreciate this is frustrating for residents and road users and will provide an update on a revised date as soon as we know.

Some items arriving at Staffordshire's household waste recycling centres are more unusual than others 👀

From pond displays to pole dancing set, all sorts of items have been given a second chance through Staffordshire's household waste recycling centres.

The team’s top ten unusual items are:
✅ Pole dancing set
✅ Pond display
✅ A set of African drums
✅ Set of framed World War II medals
✅ Antique teddy bear and toys
✅ Gramophone
✅ Bouncy castle
✅ Archer’s bow and arrow set
✅ Barometer
✅ Old telephone set

The team is now trying to trace any family or relations to the owner of the medals, while other items will be donated to schools, libraries and other organisations or sold at the sales events.

Last year, Rescue Me pop-up charity sales raised more than £17,000 for for local charities and community organisations 👏

Children with SEND and their families are enjoying free Aiming High activities across this summer ☀️

Aiming High gives children aged 0 to 17 with SEND the chance to try new activities, make friends, build confidence and enjoy time with their families.

Families can book up to three free activities each month, from outdoor adventures and sports to creative sessions and animal experiences.

Emily and her son attended a recent session at Staffordshire Wildlife’s Wolseley Centre. She said the programme has “opened up more opportunities” for her son Isaac and helped them meet other families.

A diagnosis or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is not needed to take part.

Big changes are coming to Henhurst Hill in next month 🚦

We're installing brand-new traffic lights at the crossroads with Postern Road and Hopley Road to help improve safety and tackle concerns about speeding.

The new lights will use smart technology that responds to real traffic conditions, so they won't sit on green when nobody's there 🙏

As part of the scheme, we're also:
✅ Extending the 30mph speed limit,
✅ Adding a 40mph buffer zone
✅ Improving the bus stop
✅ Creating new parking spaces for local residents.

Work starts on Tuesday 1 September and will begin under a road closure with signed diversions in place. After around a month, the road will reopen under temporary traffic lights to allow access to Screamfest visitors at National Forest Adventure Farm before the final phase of work is completed.

We've also listened to residents' concerns about HGVs travelling through residential areas. From Monday 7 September, a new 7.5 tonne weight limit will be introduced on parts of the B5017 and B5234 to help reduce lorry traffic and late-night noise. Access will still be available for businesses within the restricted area.

We know roadworks can be frustrating, but these changes are designed to make your journeys safer and the area more pleasant for everyone who lives, works and travels in .
