Forsbrook Parish Council wishes to provide clarification following its meeting on 26 September 2026 regarding Forsbrook Chapel.

Councillors considered whether to proceed with the due process required to enable the Parish Council to bid for the Chapel at auction on 26 October 2026. The Clerk outlined the Council’s financial position for the remainder of the financial year, including current balances, committed reserves, and anticipated expenditure on key parish responsibilities such as cemetery works, recreation ground reserves, elections, and asset transfers.

Members also considered the likely additional costs involved in any purchase, including survey, legal, and ongoing maintenance costs. It was noted that the Council would need to take account not only of the auction price itself, but also of the longer-term financial responsibilities associated with owning and maintaining an older building.

After careful discussion, Councillors concluded that there was currently insufficient information available on the full costs and financial implications to justify proceeding at this stage. A proposal was therefore made and unanimously agreed, with the exception of two non-voting members, that the Parish Council should not proceed further unless and until more detailed financial information becomes available.

The Council also agreed that, should the financial position change in future, the matter could be brought back for further consideration.

Forsbrook Parish Council remains committed to acting responsibly, transparently, and in the best interests of parishioners. The Council will continue to review matters carefully and will only commit public funds where there is sufficient information to support sound decision-making.

The Parish Council would like to extend its thanks and best wishes to Cllr McCready who has taken the decision to resign.

“REMEMBRANCE PARADE AND SERVICE – PARISH CHURCH OF ST. PETER’S, BLYTHE BRIDGE. Sunday 8th November 2026

The Annual Ecumenical Remembrance Day Parade and Church Service will take place on Sunday 8 November 2026.

The parade will assemble at Blythe Bridge and Forsbrook Village Hall, Uttoxeter Road, Blythe Bridge at 10.30am.

At 10.35am the parade will march to the War Memorial where the Act of Remembrance will begin by the laying of wreaths followed at 11.00am by the 2 minutes silence. The service will be held in the Parish Church of St. Peter’s.

We require road closure volunteers for during the parade and anyone wishing to spare an hour please contact the clerk on 07919911938

We’re encouraging residents across Forsbrook and Blythe Bridge to join our local Neighbourhood Watch scheme and help strengthen community safety.

📍 The scheme covers the area from Catchems Corner Roundabout, through Forsbrook to Forsbrook Cemetery and across to the Blythe fields development.

Supporting local crime prevention

As part of wider efforts to improve community safety, new cameras are being introduced in Forsbrook and around the recreational grounds, providing an additional deterrent and supporting local crime prevention.

However, technology is only one part of creating a safer community.

A well-connected neighbourhood, where residents are informed and look out for one another, can play an important role in preventing and reporting concerns.

Forsbrook Parish Council is looking to source a qualified surveyor to undertake a survey of the former Chapel on Chapel Street, Forsbrook, ahead of its proposed auction on 26 October 2026.

We are interested in hearing from suitably qualified surveyors who may have capacity to undertake the survey at short notice.

UPDATE ON THE A50 CLOSURES RECEIVED TO THE PARISH COUNCL TODAY

We wrote to you on 7 September 2026 regarding our work on the A50 between Doveridge and Blythe Bridge.

The work did not start as planned following feedback we received about the diversion route. We’ve now pushed the start date back and reviewed our diversion routes to help reduce disruption for nearby villages. We’ll also have extra signage advising drivers to follow the signposted diversion route and not follow their satnavs to deter them from cutting through the villages and using less suitable routes.

Our work will now take place from Monday 28 September to Friday 30 October 2026, on weeknights, from 8pm to 5am. During this time we’ll work under the following closures:

28 September to 20 October – A50 westbound Doveridge Bypass closed from Ashbourne Interchange to the A518 Derby Road Roundabout and A50 westbound Uttoxeter bypass closed from the A522 junction to Tean Roundabout.

12 October to 30 October – A50 Doveridge Bypass eastbound closed from the A518 Derby Road roundabout to Ashbourne Interchange.

We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum. We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may lead to changes.

Martin our fantastic handyman has cut his finger very badly on a discarded glass bottle in the cemetery this morning and is in his way to the walk in centre.

Please do not use glass bottles in the cemetery.
