PCSO 16930 Lucy Hadfield who is the Staffordshire Police Horsewatch Scheme coordinator attended Blue Cross UK Rolleston Rehoming Centres today for their 20th anniversary celebration, what a fantastic turn out considering the persistent rain. An important message from our colleagues at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue ⤵️

We are urging people not to enter open water after a teenager got stuck in mud at Chasewater Country Park in Burntwood.

Crews were called to the scene at 4.15pm on Friday (21 August) following reports that a girl was stuck in knee-deep mud.

Multiple appliances attended the scene and assisted a girl to safety.

Group Manager Jordan Money attended the scene. He said: “Entering open water can put you in significant danger and I'm urging people to take the necessary measures to stay safe in Staffordshire.

“Thankfully, the girl rescued in this incident was not injured, but the risk that this type of activity poses to people is still very high."

Dry ground conditions and strong winds mean fires can still start easily and spread quickly.

Our officers are continuing joint patrols with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue and we’re actively sharing information with partner agencies to keep our communities safe.

Your awareness makes a real difference. If you spot anything that concerns you, whether it’s unsafe behaviour, signs of fire setting, or smoke in open areas, please report it to the emergency services immediately.

Early information helps us respond faster and prevent small incidents from becoming serious.

Arrests made following large fire on Hednesford Hills in Cannock...

Two boys have been arrested following a large fire on Hednesford Hills.

We were called to the area at 1.15pm yesterday (Sunday 16 August) following reports of a fire.

The fire was extinguished by eleven fire crews and thankfully nobody was reported injured.

A 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy, both from Cannock, have since been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

📣 We are welcoming the temporary national ban on the sale of disposable barbeques as we continue to experience unprecedented demand across Staffordshire.

Fire crews were called to a staggering 600 outdoor fires last month, which is an average of 20 incidents per day.

This is almost double the demand that we were facing this time last year.

Disposable barbeques are one of the biggest outdoor fire risks, especially during periods of warm weather and limited rainfall like we have experienced recently.

🚔 Vehicle Seized Following Reports of Poaching at Rocester

Yesterday (12 August), officers were alerted to reports of suspected poaching on the River Dove at Rocester.

Thanks to the swift intervention of a river bailiff, those involved left the area before officers arrived. However, in their haste, a van was left behind.
Enquiries carried out in the area, led officers to reasonably believe the vehicle had been driven without insurance. It is believed the vehicle entered Uttoxeter via the A518, travelled through the town, and continued on to Rocester. Officers also found the vehicle to be in an unroadworthy condition and it has now been removed from the road.

This is another potentially dangerous vehicle no longer posing a risk to other road users.
Enquiries into the ownership of the vehicle and any associated offences remain ongoing.

| As the warm and dry weather continues, Cannock Police are carrying out regular patrols in areas identified as being at higher risk of grass fires across the district.

We are working closely alongside our colleagues at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, carrying out joint patrols and engaging with local communities to help reduce the risk of fires and keep people safe. We are also continuing to liaise with landowners and key stakeholders to identify potential risks and ensure preventative measures are in place where possible.

Grass fires can spread quickly, causing significant damage to wildlife, open spaces, property and the environment. We would ask everyone to play their part by:

✅ Disposing of ci******es responsibly
✅ Avoiding the use of disposable barbecues in open countryside areas
✅ Taking litter home, particularly glass bottles which can pose a fire risk
✅ Reporting any signs of fire immediately by calling 999

Thank you to our partners, landowners and local residents for their continued support. By working together, we can help protect our local green spaces and prevent unnecessary further incidents this summer.

We have arrested a third suspect as part of ongoing enquiries into a series of fires in the Cannock, Rugeley and Hednesford areas recently.

Today (Monday 10 August), an 11-year-old boy, from Cannock, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life. He will be questioned in custody.

Two other boys, a 13-year-old and a 12-year-old from the Cannock area, were arrested over the weekend and have since been bailed with conditions while our enquiries continue.

Sergeant Shelley Groves, from the Cannock local policing team, said: “We’re actively carrying out enquiries following a significant spate of fires in the local community recently, which I know has caused plenty of concern.

“While some of these incidents are still under fire investigation, we know that some of these fires have been started deliberately, and we’re actively working to find out who is responsible and to bring them in for questioning.
