Students recently took part in their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition, enjoying an unforgettable experience!

Throughout the expedition, students independently navigated their planned routes, carried their own equipment, and worked together to overcome the challenges of the journey. Their resilience, teamwork and determination were evident at every stage.

The first evening at the campsite, students gathered around the campfire to relax with toasted marshmallows! Staff were extremely proud of the positive attitude and maturity shown by all students. The expedition offered a valuable opportunity for students to build confidence, develop practical outdoor skills and strengthen friendships.

Congratulations to all students who took part in this fantastic achievement, and thank you to the staff who supported them throughout the expedition.

On Friday, 3rd June at 6.30pm, celebrate World Music Day 2026 with a concert!

Tickets to the World Music Day 2026 concert are available to purchase at £5 per adult and £3 per child. Refreshments will be available from 5.30pm.

At the beginning of June, members of the Gardening Club were invited to attend a careers open day at RHS Wisley. Students had the opportunity to meet representatives from sixth form colleges, including Merrist Wood and Capel Manor, as well as employers within the horticultural sector, such as the National Trust and the Animal & Plant Health Agency.

They also enjoyed exploring the gardens and took part in a hands-on activity in the Growing Skills Garden, where they planted tomatoes and sunflowers.

From meeting our fluffy (and feathered!) friends to walking tortoises, students showed respect for the animals in our care during BET Green Week 2026.

Our Canteen’s Tasting Zone encouraged everyone to try something new, while in Art, creativity shone through as students gave plastic bottles and old jeans a brand-new purpose, keeping them out of landfill. Students also explored upcycling by making their own paper. By combining coloured papers and petals, blending them together and straining the pulp, they created colourful, textured pieces of paper ready to repurpose.

On Friday 19 June, we will be supporting “Wear Blue for Holly Day” in aid of Holly’s Heroes.

Holly’s Heroes was created in memory of Holly West, a former student who sadly passed away in October 2024 after bravely battling cancer. The charity brings joy and special experiences to children and families affected by cancer.

We are inviting students and staff to wear something blue on this day (with a minimum £1 donation via ParentPay) to celebrate Holly’s birthday and to support the important work the charity does for children and families affected by cancer.

Today marks the first day of Green Week at The Matthew Arnold School.

We have lunchtime activities running throughout the school. In Art, students can try their hand at turning rubbish into art. The Farm is open to students as usual. In the Library, students can reflect on their experiences outdoors and decorate the Reading Tree.

We're looking forward to a fun week ahead!

Students and staff in the Food Technology Department spent the weekend away in Brussels! Highlights included a praline demonstration at Choco Story, a waffle-making workshop & chocolate demonstration, and traditionally prepared frites at the Frites Museum.

Belgium 2026 was a fantastic trip with so many opportunities to learn about Belgian cuisine, and we cannot wait for the next one!

O'n Thursday 7th May 2026 I was fortunate enough to experience a flying session with the air cadets,. One that I will never forget and will never get to experience for the first time again. As I was entering the plane I was surprisingly not as scared as I thought I would be. When the pilot and I were in the air, he showed me some flips and tricks which was amazing. As we were upside down, he told me this is how the astronauts feel like when they are in space. Then as we were cruising through the sky he told me that I could take control of the plane. This surprised me at first, but I had to take this opportunity, so I took the controls and did some turns for a bit before he took back over but not before showing me different landmarks including Stonehenge.'

What an experience!
