Burghley House

Burghley House Welcome to beautiful Burghley.
500 years. Ever evolving. Always for everyone.
(2270)

Built between 1555 and 1587, the main part of the House has 35 major rooms on the ground and first floors. There are more than 80 lesser rooms and numerous halls, corridors, bathrooms and service areas. The lead roof extends to three quarters of an acre, restoration and rebuilding of which began in 1983 and took nearly ten years to complete. Visitor facilities include the Orangery Restaurant, Gift

Shop, Garden of Surprises, Sculpture Garden and beautiful walks around the historic parkland laid out by Capability Brown and still occupied by a herd of fallow deer. History can come alive in a single trip whether it is to enjoy a guided tour, take a dog for a walk in the park, see the Teddy Bears' picnic in the Garden of Surprises or take time over lunch in the Orangery.

We don’t know whether we’re coming or going with the weather at the moment, but one thing’s for sure… our plants are LOVING it! 🌦️😍

Bright pink peonies are the showstoppers right now. Vivid purple lavender is beginning to come through as we speak, while foxgloves, delphiniums and lupins are shooting for the sky!

Next up: our wildflower borders will soon be in full bloom. The first of hundreds of ox-eye daisies are beginning to appear, so watch this space over the next week or so! 🌸

Gardens open daily, 10am-5pm. Ticket link in bio.

From 1–20 June, Burghley will host the Garden of Hope, a moving public installation created to encourage open and compassionate conversations around mental health and su***de prevention.

The installation features 98 hand-painted steel butterflies, made by local schools and community groups, each representing a life lost to su***de in Lincolnshire in 2024, while also honouring the families, friends and communities affected by that loss.

Created by , Burghley’s Garden of Hope is located beside Capability Brown’s Lake in the Sculpture Garden. A quiet space by the water offering a moment for reflection, remembrance and hope. We are proud to support this important initiative and to provide a space where conversations that matter can continue.

These photographs were taken at first light, before the doors had even opened, very recently by .

Not only do they perfectly capture the beauty of the planting, setting and sculpture, but also the evolution of the Sculpture Garden.

New pathways, new signs, new planting, new sculpture, new ways to explore. 🌿

From years of careful planning and patience, to the earth being lifted from the ground last winter, our Gardeners and supporting teams went to great lengths to give these once lost gardens a new lease of life for this open season.

Through thoughtful interpretation boards, fresh landscape design and newly linked accessible pathways around the entire gardens, visitors can now rediscover this living landscape shaped by centuries of imagination, exploration and care, like never before.
