The Red Ensign is flying outside the Town Hall today to mark Merchant Navy Day and recognise the vital contribution of merchant seafarers.

The Seafarers' Charity launched the ‘Fly the Red Ensign’ campaign in 2015, helping to shine a light on the seafarers whose work is essential to the UK. The Red Ensign takes pride of place at historic properties, political institutions, parish and town council offices, village greens and many other locations around the country.

Stamford Town Council’s Heritage and Collections Committee is looking for museum and heritage professionals or practitioners to join the Committee as a non-councillor member.

This is a valuable opportunity to share your specialist knowledge, expertise and ideas, helping to preserve Stamford’s collections, widen access to the historic Grade II* listed Town Hall, and support plans to bring a museum back to Stamford.

It is an especially exciting time to get involved, as the Committee moves towards the next important steps in creating a museum and showcasing some of Stamford’s hidden collections once again.

The Committee meets one evening bi-monthly at Stamford Town Hall and regularly plays a key part in the hands-on running of exhibitions, Heritage Open Day tours, education workshops and other council-led heritage events.

The Mayor's Parlour is home to our Civic Regalia, which is a highlight of our free guided Town Hall Tours each Friday.

As part of these guided tours, you can view the Town Hall’s remarkable civic collections, including the three historic maces, magnificent silverware, paintings, and town charters dating back to the 15th century. Visitors can also enjoy the famous painting of Stamford’s extraordinary bull running tradition, recently professionally restored to its former glory.

The Tours also take visitors into the remains of the Georgian gaol, so you can see one of the original cells and hear the stories of prisoners held in harsh and overcrowded conditions.

Our free tours will take place while Burghley Horse Trials are running this Friday, so if you don't have tickets for this event, why not join us? The Meadows was packed on Sunday as the Stamford Car Show, organised by Stamford Round Table 611, brought hundreds of stunning cars and huge crowds to town.

The Mayor of Stamford, Councillor Jane Kingman, had the honour of sending off the Scenic Tour cars from New Lodge Farm. The cars then took on a 61-mile route before making their way back to Stamford for the main event.

The Mayor also had the honour of crowning the winner of Best Stamford Car — congratulations to Steve Abbott and his 1967 Sunbeam Alpine GT! 🏆

We are thrilled to welcome two new councillors to the Town Council team!

At Monday's Full Council, Councillor Jim Grant was co-opted onto St George's Ward, and Councillor Beka Avery was co-opted onto St John's Ward.

The Mayor of Stamford, Councillor Jane Kingman, has presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Royal Mail postal worker David Dosunmu in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the town centre.

David was invited, along his son Joseph, to the Mayor’s Parlour at Stamford Town Hall to enjoy tea with the Mayor. Councillors Habib Rahman and Max Sawyer also joined the celebration to recognise David’s contribution to the local community.

During each Mayoral term, the Mayor of Stamford selects individuals and groups they personally feel have made a standout contribution to the town and its residents.

Mayor Jane Kingman said: “As our local Royal Mail postal worker, David’s friendly face, reliability and continued care for the people and businesses of the town centre have made him a valued and much-appreciated member of our community."
