We are asking people to consider βclicking instead of callingβ in non-emergency situations as we deal with record call numbers during the heatwave π₯ .
Public Contact Superintendent Matt Barton said: βWith this weekβs heatwave and long bank holiday weekend we have seen a significant increase in calls from members of the public.
βOn Tuesday (26 May), which was the hottest day of the year so far, we received a record number of calls - almost 1,900 over 24 hours. Of these 945 were non-emergencies, many of which could have been reported online.
βWe are of course here to help and if there is an immediate emergency please do not hesitate to dial 999 so that we can get help to you quickly.
βHowever, if itβs not an emergency situation, you can help us get to those in urgent need quicker by considering our online reporting options. We do understand that there are reasons why some people may not be able to use online reporting options, so please dial 101 to talk to us in a non-emergency if that applies to you.β
Online reports are still dealt with by control room staff. It also means you can submit a report at a time that is convenient to you and you wonβt be held in a queue when calling during peak times.
You can report non-emergencies online by:
π» Filling out our online reporting form at https://orlo.uk/kMBn8 You can report a crime here by filling out a simple form, and an officer will get in contact with you to follow up.
π£οΈ Speaking to an operator in our control room via our online web chat at https://orlo.uk/7OR8D This will connect you with a call handler, meaning you will get a response from one of our specially trained operators.
π¨ If it is a genuine emergency or a crime in action, please always dial 999.
