💲🏘️ A date for the Planning Inquiry has yet to be confirmed, though 3 Nov is one provisional date that has been mentioned to the Parish Council. The Inquiry could last as long as 8 days to hear the detailed and highly technical arguments to be put forward at it by parties for and against City and Country's plan to build 480 homes close to Stansted and Birchanger. A campaign is under way on gofundme.com to raise money to pay for experts to present the case against development. If you would like to contribute to it, you can do so at 👉 https://short-url.cc/1vF5z

📢🚧Emergency Road Closure – High Lane

As many of you will already be aware, High Lane is currently closed. This is to allow UK Power Networks to carry out emergency repairs to an electricity cable.

The road is currently expected to reopen on Thursday. Until then traffic should follow a diversion route via the B1383 and B1051.

Please note: this timeframe may change depending on how quickly the repairs can be completed. While the expectation is the road will reopen on Thursday, the closure permit allows the road to remain closed for up to 21 days (from Friday 31 July) if required.

👮‍♀️ PCSO Alex Stewart is at TouchPoint today until noon offering crime prevention advice and is ready to discuss any concerns you have about crime in your local area.

🚓 He'll be back tomorrow from noon for a free property marking session. Bring your bike to have it security stickered, making it easier to identify if it's ever stolen and recovered, while also helping to deter thieves.

🏡 PCSO Stewart will also be giving away a limited number of DNA property marking kits, kindly provided by the Uttlesford Community Safety Partnership. These popular kits can be used to mark valuable and sentimental items, including TVs, laptops, DIY tools, bicycles and even family keepsakes.

Come along, ask questions, and take advantage of these free crime prevention services.

🫠No rain today. Flood Wardens needed tomorrow.🌧

With Ugley Brook dry, it might seem an odd time to recruit Flood Wardens. But with our volunteer numbers down from 10 to just 4, we need to start recruiting wardens to have them ready in time for when storms start rolling in later in the year.

We're especially looking for residents and business owners in the Lower Street area, where the flood risk is greatest.

What's involved?
💧 Monitoring water levels during heavy rain.
🌿 Clearing debris from the brook to keep water flowing.
📞 Reporting any developing flood risks to the Parish Council and emergency contacts.

Flooding isn't just a distant possibility. In 2014, more than 20 homes and businesses on Lower Street were affected, and the Environment Agency estimates the culvert is likely to overflow, on average, once every five years.

If you can spare a little time to help protect our community, we'd love to hear from you.

Send us a DM, email [email protected], or visit our website to find out more.

🎉 Congratulations to the Birchanger & Stansted Green Belt Preservation Group (BSGPG) on their ongoing fundraising campaign to ensure our communities are represented at the Planning Inquiry into City & Country's proposal to build homes on the Green Belt.

Funds raised will help pay for professional representation at the Planning Inquiry, which begins on 3 November.

A huge thank you to everyone who has already donated to the group's GoFundMe page. BSGPG is now aiming to reach a new target of **£8,000**. If you'd like to support their campaign, you can donate here:
