👩‍🦯SMPC Chair Maureen Caton last Friday cut the ribbon to mark the opening of a new children's sensory garden at Spangles Children's Centre, off St John Road.

The garden was partly funded by a £1,217 Parish Council community grant awarded to Barnardo's, which helps run services for families from the hub in St John's Road. The charity used the money towards the garden project.

The Parish Council has set aside over £12,000 in its budget to support organisations, charities and sports associations that provide services to Stansted's residents.

📣🏠The planning committee at Uttlesford District Council has unanimously decided to REFUSE City & Country's planning application to build 300 homes on land near Forest Hall School. In reaching their decision the committee reasoned that the proposed site would have been built on Metropolitan Green Belt land.

The developer and the district council’s own planning officer viewed the parcel of land as falling in Grey Belt, and so open to such a development.

Thank you to everyone who sent in their views on the application and particularly to those who were able to attend today's meeting to speak to the planning committee.🙏

📣🏠Tomorrow, the Planning Committee at Uttlesford District Council will decide whether to approve plans from City & Country for over 300 homes on land previously designated as Metropolitan Green Belt — land that is intended to be protected from development.

👉SMPC will be attending the meeting to strongly set out our position, shared by many Stansted residents, that this application should not be approved.

ℹ️You can find out more about this application, our opposition to it, and what action we’ve taken here:

📣Last week representatives from Alpha Vesta, Essex Police - Uttlesford District, Uttlesford District Council and the domestic abuse awareness initiative J9 visited the Parish Council offices to present certificates to staff and councillors who have completed a domestic-abuse awareness course.

👉As a result, the Parish Council offices at the Mountfitchet Exchange are now officially recognised as a safe space.

Anyone experiencing domestic abuse, or who may be unsure whether behaviour within a close relationship could amount to domestic abuse, can visit the offices where staff and councillors can help direct people to specialist organisations and services that can provide help.

New signage at the Mountfitchet Exchange has been put up to highlight the scheme and make support easier to find for those who may need it.

💐🌷GWB Horticulture Ltd on Monday set about putting up over 100 hanging baskets around the village on behalf of the Parish Council.

The recent dry weather delayed the work, as GWB wanted to protect the plants from the heat. The displays will now be watered twice a week throughout the summer.

With baskets and planters in place, we're hoping they'll catch your eye as you are out and about -- as well as impressing the Anglia in Bloom judges when they visit in July! 🌸
