📣 Favour needed from Team Stapleford

We’re looking for a large piece of yellow tarping / salvage sheet / heavy‑duty cloth to use at Hemlock Happening this weekend.

If anyone has something suitable we could borrow, donate, or point us towards, it would be massively appreciated.

Thank you, as always, for the support.

🔥 A Busy Week for Our On‑Call Firefighters

Last week was an exceptionally busy one for our on‑call crews, who responded every single day - from Carlton to Bramcote and even Derby City Centre. Their commitment to keeping our communities safe has been incredible.

Yesterday alone we dealt with 10 separate incidents across Stapleford and Bramcote.

But one incident stands out.

Around 7pm, our team was mobilised to a report of a small fire in Bramcote Park - our award‑winning green open space that everyone should be able to enjoy safely.

This fire was deliberately started.
A group of young people stole a BBQ from a local shop and used it to start a fire in the park.

This is becoming a worrying pattern. With warmer weather on the way, we are genuinely concerned that we could see a significant fire in the park or elsewhere in our town.

We need your help.

1️⃣ If you see fire or smoke - call 999 immediately

Our fire control team are outstanding. They’ll take the details and send the right crews straight away.
They may ask you to use What3Words to pinpoint your exact location.

2️⃣ Who is doing this? We need information

If you know who is starting these fires - including last night’s incident - please tell us.
You can report completely anonymously to Crimestoppers:
📞 0800 555 111
🌐 crimestoppers-uk.org

We are working closely with Nottinghamshire Police to identify those responsible and bring them before the courts.

Let’s work together to keep our town safe.

🔥 PARENTS - Do you know where your kids are?

It’s a warm May evening in Nottingham.
Your kids are out. They’re laughing, exploring, pushing boundaries.

And right now, some of them are heading to rivers, lakes and quarries.

💬 Have you had that conversation? Have you talked to them about being safe?

Emergency services were called to Balderton Lake, off Heron Way, New Balderton at 2.35pm on Thursday 28 May following reports a man had entered the water.

Nottinghamshire Police, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, and East Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene and a 19-year-old man was recovered from the water. He had been at the lake with friends, was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to hospital.

We are sad to inform that he has not survived. His family have been informed and officers are supporting them at this deeply distressing time.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Chief Inspector for Newark, Clive Collings, said:

"This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are solely with this young man's family.

"We recognise this will be very upsetting for the local community and we encourage people to access support if they need it.

"During hot weather we know people want to keep cool but open waters are exceptionally dangerous as there is no way of telling what's beneath the surface."

Group Manager Charlotte Weatherall-Smith from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

“On behalf of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of this young man at this incredibly difficult time. This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with everyone affected.

“Incidents like this are a stark reminder of the dangers that open water can present. Even on warm and sunny days, water temperatures can be much colder than they appear, and entering the water can lead to cold water shock, which can be sudden, severe and potentially fatal.

“If you see someone in difficulty in the water, call 999 immediately and ask for the fire service. Encourage the person to float on their back to help them stay calm and conserve energy. For your own safety, please do not enter the water or attempt a rescue yourself, as this can put additional lives at risk.”

If you spot someone in open waters call 999 and provide the fire service with an accurate location using what3words or landmarks.

🔥 Deliberate Fires – We Need Your Help

Over the last few weeks we’ve seen a rise in deliberately started fires across our green open spaces - including small BBQs and makeshift camping fires. These incidents may look harmless, but they spread quickly, damage wildlife habitats, and place extra pressure on our crews.

At times we’ve had , and all responding alongside us here in Stapleford and Bramcote. We’re incredibly grateful for their support, but these avoidable fires pull resources away from other emergencies.

We’re asking for your help.

There should be absolutely no campfires, BBQs or flame‑related activities in our parks, gardens or farmers’ fields. Even a small fire can get out of hand in seconds.

We also need information.
If you know who is starting these deliberate fires - including the recent incident at Fishpond Cottage, where two firefighters had to commit inside the building wearing breathing apparatus - please come forward.

You can share information completely anonymously with CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website: crimestoppers-uk.org.

Let’s keep our town safe together.
