Happy Christmas from the Great Ashby Community Council!

GACC would like to dedicate the Community Christmas tree and the new lights to Robert and Evelyn; two long standing members of GACC who sadly passed away this year. Evelyn established the relationship with the supplier of our beautiful Nordman Christmas trees many years ago, and just last year Robert proposed GACC buy some “Bigger, Brighter, Better” lights!

GACC would like to extend their warmest thanks to the Great Ashby Community Centre (GACCMA) for choosing the new lights, both for the Christmas tree and for the trees at the entrance to the Community Centre. We hope you will agree they look stunning. Thank you too to Sot from Dot Electrical for giving up your time to help with dressing the tree.

Wishing all of our residents and their families and friends a safe and happy festive period, and we look forward to welcoming you to our Meetings in 2026.

Proposals for the land to the north-east of Great Ashby ("GA2")

GACC have been notified that the Developer will be submitting a planning application to North Hertfordshire Council (NHC) soon. The proposal forms part of the adopted Local Plan allocation for GA2, following extensive engagement with the District and County Councils and the approval by North Hertfordshire District Council of the Master Plan in November 2024.

The application will seek permission for up to 640 new homes, a primary school, community hub, open spaces, and associated infrastructure.

The application is expected to be submitted shortly. Once validated, NHC will publicise the details on its website and invite comments from residents and interested parties as part of the statutory consultation process. GACC will be actively involved in this process, and would urge residents to engage with GACC and your District Councillors from the outset so that your views may be represented.

North Herts Council are currently in a period of consultation about Local Government Reorganisation until 30th September. There will be another formal period of consultation in Spring 2026 before the final decision is taken by Central Government about the new local authorities.

In Hertfordshire, there are currently two types of council:
• District and Borough councils, which provide services such as housing, planning, bin collections, car parks and leisure services.
• The County Council, which is responsible for schools, libraries, roads, caring for children and supporting adults who need help with daily living.

Under the Government’s plan, these councils will be replaced by new unitary councils that will deliver all services currently provided by the two separate types of council. There are currently three proposals with proposed boundary changes.

GACC will be issuing a response, and would encourage residents to look at the proposals and feedback any observations.
