A wee update on something we’ve been working on behind the scenes…
We’ve started the process of working with **futureCoders CIC** to develop something that could make a massive difference to how we run Ardeer Promrun.
For those who haven’t heard of them, futureCoders are a **Community Interest Company based in Rochester, Kent**.
They build apps and digital tools, particularly for charities, social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations. But what really interested us is that there’s a bigger purpose behind what they do.
Alongside building the technology, futureCoders help people develop coding, data and digital skills through real projects and work experience, giving emerging developers the chance to learn while working alongside experienced people.
That community and social-purpose side of what they do really struck a chord with us.
Promrun has never just been about running. It’s about getting people involved, creating opportunities, removing barriers and hopefully building something that has a positive impact on the community.
So there feels like a really good fit between their ethos and ours.
The plan is for futureCoders to help us develop our own **Ardeer Promrun app**.
And it’s not about having an app just for the sake of having one.
As Promrun grows, so does everything happening in the background every week — registering and onboarding new runners, timing, recording results and then doing it all again the following week!
The idea is to make all of that much simpler.
We’re looking at easier onboarding, timing for our weekly Promruns and quarterly events, results, leaderboards and other functions that will hopefully make things better for runners and much easier for the people organising everything behind the scenes.
We’re not going to try and build everything at once.
**It’ll be done in stages.**
The first challenge is getting some **seed funding** in place to get development moving. We’ll then need additional funding to help with onboarding and the next stages as more of the system comes online.
It might also mean we need to speed up something we knew would probably happen eventually — becoming a properly **constituted community group**.
That would give Promrun a bit more structure and potentially open doors to grants and other funding that could help us make things like this happen.
We’re still right at the start of this and there’s plenty to work through.
But we wanted to bring everyone along with us rather than suddenly appearing one Sunday morning and saying, “Here’s the Promrun app!” 😂
If we can get it right, hopefully it means less time spent on admin and spreadsheets and more time spent on what Promrun was actually created for…
**Getting people out. Getting people moving. Bringing people together. ❤️🏃**
We’ll keep you posted as it develops.
