With the gentle movement of the River Test and the quiet corners of our new Oriental Garden, our estate lends itself naturally to rest and reflection. This summer, we are hosting a curated programme of holistic wellbeing events across the grounds. 🧘

Our historic conservatory and lakeside spaces will play host to a variety of restorative practices, allowing you to pause and reconnect with nature.

Our climbing roses are beginning to frame the estate in a beautiful array of colour. If you take a stroll past the historic 1790 house, you will find 'Malvern Hills', 'Emily Gray', and 'Snow Goose' scrambling gracefully across the veranda.

If you have visited us recently, you might notice a rather familiar figure missing from the grounds. Our beloved statue of Mercury has temporarily stepped down from the Mercury border and gone to 'hospital' for some essential care and restoration.

We are hoping he will return to his rightful spot in the autumn.

In the meantime, the surrounding summer borders are looking absolutely beautiful and are well worth a stroll.

Our historic peony collection holds a quiet piece of garden heritage. Originally sourced from the renowned Kelways nursery and planted in the early 1980s, these blooms have a fascinating story.

When Kelways faced liquidation decades ago, several of these specific varieties were lost to wider commercial cultivation. However, within the sheltered borders of our Walled Garden, they were preserved. Over forty years later, they continue to flower beautifully season after season.

The peony flowering window is notoriously brief. If these historic, blousy blooms are a personal favourite of yours, this is the week to visit.

Our courtyard is currently home to one of our finest seasonal displays, thanks to our magnificent, established wisteria. Achieving an abundance of these sweeping, scented blooms requires careful, consistent care throughout the year. 🌿

Because wisteria is such a vigorous climber, our gardening team prunes it twice annually to keep it in check and stimulate the best possible flowering wood for the following season.

We have shared a practical, step-by-step guide to our traditional pruning methods on the website, perfect for anyone looking to nurture their own climbers at home.
