Houghton Lodge is an 18th century Grade II* listed Cottage Orne, idyllically set above the tranquil waters of the River Test in Hampshire. Grade II* listed gardens surround an enchanting 18th century Cottage Orné, idyllically set above tranquil waters of the River Test. With informal and formal gardens, Walled Garden with espaliers, themed herb garden, wildflower beds and a wonderful Orchid House.

Enjoy over 15 acres of meadows and walks along the River Test, meet resident Alpacas and Topiary “Dragon”. Honesty at Houghton Lodge Gardens Tearoom and art exhibitions. House tours are available

Hello everyone!

As we enter September, with late summer blooms transitioning into autumn colour, it's a wonderful time to visit the gardens. 🍂

Enjoy a walk around the gardens and stop at The Glass House for a cosy coffee or a bite to eat.

We have a morning Drawing Workshop with Kate Measham at The Glass House on 24th September.

Our annual Apple Day on Sunday, 27th September, celebrating our historic orchard collection.

It is a quiet, beautiful season to wander the grounds.

Apple Day returns to Houghton Lodge Gardens 🍏

Join us on Sunday 27th September to celebrate the traditional, heritage varieties growing in our historic orchards.

With over 32 varieties of apple trees and our world-record-holding espaliered pear tree, 'Beurre Diel', this annual event highlights fruit varieties no longer found in supermarkets.

The day offers a blend of garden heritage, traditional displays, and seasonal treats at The Glass House.

The bank holiday weekend is almost here... 🌿

Whilst our gardens will be closed on Saturday 29th August for a private event, we look forward to welcoming visitors on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

Join us and spot..

Seasonal blooms emerging in our Oriental Garden, featuring rare shrubs and perennials from Japan and China.

The newly replanted Peacock Garden, establishing itself very well!

Our resident alpacas enjoying grazing in their meadow.

The tranquil flow of the River Test as it winds past our historic 1790 Cottage Orné.

Please take note of our upcoming *garden closures* before planning your visit this week:

🌺 Wednesday 26th August: Walled Garden closed from 3-5pm for a private event. (Outer garden & riverside are still open, tickets are half price. The tearoom is serving take away tea/coffee & cake until 5pm. Please pay in the tearoom when you arrive).

🌺 Saturday 29th August: The whole garden will be closed all day for a private event.

The Glasshouse Outdoor Terrace and shop side will be open until 12:00 PM, takeaway coffee & cake will be available from 12 - 5pm.

The Walled Garden will be closed from 3:00 PM, with half-price garden entrance available from that time onwards.

Please note adjustments to our opening hours and facilities this **Saturday, 22nd August**.

The Glasshouse Terrace and shop side will be open until 12:00 PM. Then takeaway coffee & cake will be available from 12 - 5pm. (The inside of the Glasshouse will be closed as it is prepared for a private event.)

The Walled Garden will be closed from 3:00 PM, with half-price garden entrance available from that time onwards.

The remainder of our 14-acre grounds, including the river walk and meadows, oriental garden and more, remain open for you to enjoy.
