“A narrow class of people is profiting from our anguish.”

Not just cli-fi, a warning. Tim Winton in this weeks Guardian, writing about his book Juice, written in a future world post horror zone of global warming and the parallels of oligarchs choosing greed over people, the deserved need of truth from the media both good and bad, and the hope of securing a better existence for future generations.

(Juice was in August 2025 and a favourite of our readers and team.)

The Trouble with Sister Francis - An Evening with Matt Coyne () - author of bookclub favourite FRANK & RED

🗓️ Thurs 10th September 2026

Matt Coyne’s debut Frank and Red is currently our highest rated book in three years of bookclub and we’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming Matt to Romiley for the release of his brilliant new novel The Trouble with Sister Francis. Filled with a cast of unforgetable characters, The Trouble with Sister Francis is a heartwarming slice of 1980s nostalgia that is both hilarious and heartbreaking.

We’re sure you’ll love this as much as Frank and Red and we can’t wait to hear Matt discuss his work with bookshop owner Kelly on Thursday 10th September.

The talk will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.

Tickets are just £5.00 (or £20.00 including a copy of the book) and light refereshments are included. Reserve your seat online or at the counters!
