This is Stockport student Zanwer Afa. He spent a month revising in temporary housing after a house fire destroyed his home just two months before his A-level exams 😨
Against all odds, he still managed to score an incredible four A*s and secured a four-year university scholarship after studying at school until 7pm every day after the devastating fire.
The Aquinas College student was revising for his exams when a fire forced his family into temporary housing.
As a young carer, he spent a month balancing his family responsibilities while staying at school from 9am until 7pm every day to study.
"For me I think it was a bit tougher than most because I'm a young carer, and two months before exam season, my house actually set on fire, which is pretty bad," he said.
"We moved into temporary housing for like a month, through it all I stayed in school till 7pm sometimes."
He admitted he was in complete disbelief when he opened his envelope on Thursday morning to find he had achieved four A* grades.
"First reaction was 'they weren't mine,'" he explained. "I honestly thought they got me mixed up with someone else.
"I couldn't believe I got four A*s" 🎉
His excellent grades have secured him a place and a full four-year scholarship at Imperial College in London.
"So excited, so nervous as well," he added. “It's going to be crazy meeting all the people that did the same as me in college."
He is now preparing to move to London to begin his degree.
