On Friday 22nd March the Award Ceremony for the Environmental Challenge took place at Stockport Hydro.

The presentation was a joyous event. Bright sunshine, both screws turning and lots of interest in the Hydro. We issued a general request for volunteers and invitation for visits by organised groups.

We had 30 award winners, and distributed a total of £9820. Representatives of 21 groups turned up to receive their cheques, certificates and posters and share details of their projects with other representatives. There was a great deal of enthusiastic exchange and evidence of collaborative working across the borough.

Environmental Challenge Fund 2025 Awards Ceremony

On a chilly Friday in March, a large group of shareholders and winners of this year’s awards met at the Hydro on the River Goyt in Romiley to celebrate 28 local projects sharing £8,631.

Established in 2012 and run entirely by volunteers, the Hydro generates power that is fed to the local grid then into the National Grid. Since the fund was established in 2015 we have awarded over £53,00 to 183 projects within Stockport MBC.

As the amount awarded each November is determined by rainfall the 2026 fund might be lower.
