As we have said, Stockport Labour welcomes the return of fortnightly blue bin collections. It is what residents have been asking for all year.

But we were told for well over a year that it could not be afforded. After a summer of uncollected bins, suddenly it can.

Residents deserve to know how and when this decision was actually taken, how it is being paid for, and whether this is a permanent change. We will be asking at scrutiny committee tonight.

♻️ BLUE BINS ARE GOING BACK TO FORTNIGHTLY COLLECTIONS

Before Christmas, blue bin collections for paper, card and cardboard will return to a fortnightly service.

This was a commitment in our manifesto and Stockport Labour have been pushing for it ever since. Today it has been confirmed. ✅

📅 Nothing changes yet, so stick to your current collection days. New calendars will be published next month and posted through every door before the change.

We are chasing the start date now and will let you know the minute we have it.

Thanks to everyone who got in touch with our councillors. It worked.

Stockport built 43% of the homes it needed over three years. Worst in the North of England. Every other Greater Manchester borough did better, six of them passed outright.

Predictably, this is Labour's fault. It was Labour's fault in 2021, in 2023, and again this week. Four years in charge and the Lib Dems still haven't found a problem in Stockport that belongs to them.

Bins refused over lids open by millimetres, and residents given no warning.

After the significant disruption to the bin collections this week Cllr Wise and I have written to the cabinet member and Chief Executive to get answers.

Having received almost 100 example photographs it is clear that the change has caught many people off guard which could have been avoided with some clear communication.

To be clear the issues here are to do with the communication and process followed by the council, not the waste collectors who do a sterling job in all weathers and feel the brunt of this lack of communication.
