💝 Stockton-on-Tees Crematorium is opening its doors and inviting people to a special open day on Saturday 26 September.

Residents from across the Borough have the opportunity to meet the team and see behind the scenes at the crematorium from 10am until 2pm.

The free event will include:

💙 Guided tours of the crematorium to learn how the facility operates

💙 Meet the professionals, including local funeral directors and other bereavement service specialists, and find out more about the support they provide

💙 An opportunity to explore the range of memorial options available to remember and celebrate loved ones

💙 A chance to learn more about the Borough’s cemeteries and family history resources

💙 A moment to leave messages in our special ‘Letters to Heaven’ post box on seeded paper for loved ones

💙 Free refreshments to enjoy including tea, coffee and biscuits

🛝👧 Children are already enjoying their fully revamped play park in Fairfield, Stockton!

The playpark, on Limbrick Avenue, has been fenced with new surfacing laid and now offers swings, a new slide, small climbing frame and sensory features.

The works have been delivered by the Council with funding allocated through the Fairfield and Hartburn Ward Members’ budgets, with additional contributions from Friends of Fairfield Play Park and Thirteen

The play park was a priority site for investment through the Council’s Play Strategy.

*** ROAD RESURFACING ACROSS THE BOROUGH ***

🚧 Highway improvements are due to be carried out on these roads across the Borough on the following dates as part of our annual Highways Maintenance Programme:

✅ Green Lane, Yarm, Wednesday 2 September – closed between Thirsk Road roundabout and Yarm Station from 7pm to midnight.

✅ Seymour Grove, Eaglescliffe, Thursday 3 September – closed between Urlay Nook Road and Eaglescliffe School car park from 7pm to midnight.

✅ Marlborough Road, Stockton, Friday 4 September - closed between Oxbridge Lane and Buckingham Road from 7pm to midnight.

Signed diversion routes will be in place and pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained throughout the works, but access for residents of Seymour Grove will be limited as the route operates with a one way in and one way out only system.

✅ After having 470 tonnes of asbestos safely removed from the building, the demolition of the Golden Eagle is now well underway.

📸 As shown in these striking images, the roof and top floors of the six-storey building will be removed first.

🔜 The scaffolding will then be taken down to allow the ground and first floors to be demolished and leave the site completely cleared for redevelopment.

*** A19/A67 CRATHORNE JUNCTION IMPROVEMENTS ***

Essential work to improve road safety at the A19/A67 Crathorne junction, including the replacement of street lighting columns, underground cabling and vehicle restraint barriers, is due to continue next week (Tuesday 1 September).

The improvements will deliver significant road safety benefits, including enhanced visibility for motorists during hours of darkness, a more resilient and reliable lighting system, and upgraded vehicle restraint barriers that provide greater protection in the event of a collision.

The scheme will also help ensure the junction continues to meet current highway safety standards.

Work to replace sections of the vehicle restraint barriers has already commenced, with the next phase involving the replacement of ageing street lighting.

To enable the works to be carried out safely, temporary traffic signals will be in place from Tuesday for approximately six weeks. Road users may experience some delays during this period and are advised to allow additional time for their journeys.
