🚧 Highway Maintenance Update – Surface Dressing Programme 🚧

Due to the poor weather conditions this week, our contractor has been delayed on projects outside of the city and is unable to undertake some planned surface dressing works this week. As a result, the first phase of the programme has been revised and the following dates have been updated:

Surface dressing is a weather-dependent treatment and can only be undertaken when conditions are suitable. These changes are necessary to ensure the treatment is applied safely and achieves the best possible long-term performance.

Please allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes where possible.

While our crews will do their best to provide access to and from properties whenever it is safe to do so, there may be times when residents and visitors are asked to wait briefly while the treatment is being applied. We appreciate your patience and co-operation whilst these works are carried out.

🚧 Highway Maintenance Update – Surface Dressing Programme 🚧

❗ Moorland Road / Lysander Road / Grange Road ❗

⛈ Due to the poor weather conditions experienced this week, our contractor has been unable to safely undertake some planned surface dressing works.
As a result, the programme has been revised and the following dates have been updated:

📅 Original Dates - 2nd, 11th & 14th September.
📅 New Dates - 6th, 11th & 15th September.

🔧 Pothole Pro Works

The Pothole Pro will be carrying out small patch repairs to the carriageway.

These include:

• 01/09-02/09- Unwin Street (dig down)- The footway runs along the side of 103 Unwin Street to join the other footway from end of Graying Grove and Sherrat Street & Merrion Drive- Burslem Park Ward.
• 04/09- Victoria Road- Halfords entrance- Hanley Park, Joiners Square and Shelton ward.
• 05/09- Radford Road- Basford and Hartshill Ward.

🚦 Traffic Signal Works

Times Square Traffic Signal Upgrade - work commences Monday 22nd June until Spring 2027

🚌 Non-Highway Projects

Schemes include:

• Longton Public Realm- works continue for several weeks
• South Wolfe Street- works continue for several weeks
• Burslem Public Realm (Queen Street)- works continue for several months.

⚠️ Road Safety Improvements

• Ashwood- Road Safety Scheme- Works continue 10/08
• Watergate Street- Road Safety Scheme- Works commence 10/08

Traffic management will be in place whilst the road safety improvement schemes are carried out.

Works to improve footways in the city continue this week. Schemes include:

• Bream Way footway reconstruction- works commence 17/08.
• Dace Grove footway reconstruction- works commence 01/09.

🚧 Berwick Road – Proposed Traffic Calming Scheme 🚧

Following requests from local residents and ward councillors, a road safety assessment has been undertaken on Berwick Road. As a result, Stoke-on-Trent City Council has developed a series of proposed measures to improve road safety and accessibility along Berwick Road.

📋 The consultation plans are now available to view below.

Key Proposed Improvements:
✅ Installation of traffic calming features, including speed cushions along Berwick Road, to reduce vehicle speeds.
✅ Upgrading the existing zebra crossing to a raised table zebra crossing to improve pedestrian safety and reduce vehicle speed.
✅ Installation of a pedestrian refuge / traffic island at Milton Rd / Berwick Road junction to prevent motorists cutting the corner.
✅ Reinstatement of shared footway - cycleway markings to encourage active travel.
✅ Refresh road markings and associated traffic signs to improve clarity and driver awareness.

Benefits of the Scheme:
🔸 Reduces vehicle speeds along Berwick Road.
🔸 Improves crossing safety for pedestrians/school children.
🔸 Cyclists provided with a safer alternative cyclepath to use instead of the carriageway.

Next Steps:
Following the consultation:
🔹 All comments received will be carefully considered.
🔹 Amendments will be made where appropriate before the final design is completed.
🔹 Subject to the outcome of the consultation and funding approval, a construction programme will be developed and start dates will be communicated in due course.

The Campbell Road bridge over the A500 will be closed from tomorrow for National Highways works.

The A5006 bridge will be closed to traffic in both directions for around six months while repairs are carried out to the bridge joints and waterproofing, alongside improvements to the central reservation and pavement.
It will remain open to pedestrians.

There are also a series of overnight road closures from 8pm to 6am for traffic management installation and prep work.
Tomorrow (27 July) - A50 to A500 southbound entry slip road closed
28-30 July - A500 exit slip road to A50 Sideway roundabout closed
- Hanford Interchange A500 northbound entry slip road closed
