Electrical Fire Safety – Keep Your Home Safe πŸ”Œ
Every year, many house fires are caused by damaged, faulty or misused electrical items. The good news? Most electrical fires can be prevented with a few simple checks and good habits:
β€’ Check whether your electrical products have been recalled via https://www.gov.uk/guidance/product-recalls-and-alerts
β€’ Register your appliances so you’re notified of any safety repairs or recalls: www.registermyappliance.org.uk
β€’ Avoid overloading plug sockets – stick to one plug per socket where possible.
β€’ Keep appliances clean and well-maintained. Watch out for blown fuses, tripping circuit-breakers or flickering lights.
β€’ Regularly inspect cables and plugs for fraying, scorch marks or loose fittings before using any appliance.
β€’ Switch appliances off at the socket when not in use, especially before bed or when going out (except those designed to stay on, like freezers).
β€’ Only buy chargers from reputable sellers. Cheap imports often fail UK safety standards and can cause fires.
β€’ Recycle electricals properly. If it lights up, moves, buzzes, or heats up, it contains a batteryβ€”never put these in the bin. Remove batteries where possible and recycle them separately, or recycle the whole item safely. Use the Recycle Your Electricals Locator to find your nearest drop-off point. https://recycleyourelectricals.org.uk/electrical-recycling-near-me/
β€’ Fit smoke alarms on every level of your home and test them regularly.

This evening, the Stokesley crew attended our Training Centre in Easingwold for a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) training session. The focus was refreshing and developing their practical skills by using a range of rescue tools and equipment that we carry.

Crews carried out hands on training with cutters, spreaders, reciprocating saws, impact drills, windscreen cutters, stabilisation systems, ram equipment, and more, all aimed at maintaining operational readiness and efficiency in real-world rescue scenarios.

Safe to say, this car wont see the road anytime soon… if ever.
