There's lots going on at Stone Heritage Centre!! Come down and take a look around!!

Until Saturday 16th May 2026, Stone Heritage Centre is marking the anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day by remembering and commemorating the sacrifices and contributions made by Stone residents during the Second World War.

On display are items and artefacts recognising both individual service and the collective efforts of the town during the war years.

Starting on Thursday 21st May the work of local artist Craig Sumner will be exhibited, many of which depict Stone.

The Stone Police Auxiliary Station Sign, which during the Second World War, hung above the door of the auxiliary station on Northesk Street is now available to view at the Heritage Centre.

After the war, the building became the Police Canteen and was later known locally as the Police Social Club — a welcoming place where officers could relax and socialise after their duties.

Inside, officers could enjoy a meal, prepare their own food, or take part in friendly competitions including table tennis, darts, crib, whist, and dominoes. The sign has been kindly loaned by Staffordshire History Centre.

A selection of items excavated from Old Hall Field in Hilderstone by the Stoke-on-Trent Museum Archaeological Society) are still available to view as is the Knowing Your Onions display showing recipes from Staffordshire past.

There's something for everyone!! The Centre is open to the public Thursday - Saturday, 11am - 4pm.
