🌱To all parish residents - can we encourage you to start making compost at home?

🌍 More people making compost from their garden &/or food waste has many benefits including:
· reduced carbon emissions due to fewer journeys transporting waste to council tips and incinerators
· no need to buy commercially produced compost ie less plastic bags & less £££
· healthier and more drought resistant soil and plants in our gardens
· more carbon locked into soil
· no need for bonfires
· less pressure on Council resources
Composting helps people to feel they are doing something proactive to combat climate change by closing the ‘waste loop’ in their home.

♻️ Gloucestershire County Council want to support residents to start composting. They are offering:
· £15 off your first compost bin at: Composting | Gloucestershire Recycles

📝 Learn how to compost via this FREE Garden Organic online course at: https://gardenorganic.mylearningapp.com/enrol/index.php?id=44

Sign in as a guest using this password: GloucesterCompost. The course takes about 45-60 minutes

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust ‘Tile Whipping Campaign’ in association with Stroud District Council is encouraging residents to de-pave their patios and driveways to make space for wildlife and help reduce surface water flooding.

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust

Stroud District Council are offering free collection of removed bricks and tiles as part of the initiative.

More information here ➡️

‘Tile whipping’ is more commonly known as de-paving. This is when hard surfaces, like tarmac or paving slabs, are removed and exchanged for natural surfaces that rainwater can drain into.

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of Meningitis Now, and we invite you to join us for our flagship event, the Five Valleys Walk. This sponsored walk takes you through the stunning Cotswold countryside and offers something for everyone. 🥾🌳

Not only is it a fantastic day out for the whole family, but every step you take will help us in the fight against meningitis.

With routes and activities suitable for all ages and abilities, it truly is the perfect family day out! The 21-mile route is a challenging option, but you can choose a distance that suits you, ranging from 1.5 miles up to the full course. Once you've completed your walk, you can catch a bus back to any point along the route, thanks to our wonderful partners at Stagecoach.

We are also excited to introduce a brand-new addition to the day: the Five Valleys 5K! This shorter, accessible walk is separate from the main 21-mile route and will take you along the scenic canal path to the Stonehouse Court Hotel Canalside Lawn. There will be activities for kids along the way, and you will return to the Stroud Cricket Club to complete the event!

Secure your tickets today! 👉 https://www.fivevalleyswalk.com/
