Updates from the Mayor – Councillor Tim Berry

Since being elected in May, the Mayor has attended several events and meetings, and planning is well underway for the year ahead.

He will also be writing a monthly column for the Kidderminster Standard, where he will share more about his engagements and highlight key events taking place in the community. Following the recent notice of a vacancy for the Areley Kings East ward, no election was called.

Stourport-on-Severn Town Council will now consider filling the casual vacancy by co-option.

🌊⚠️ Stay safe around water during the heatwave

With an extreme heat warning in place for Wednesday and Thursday, we know many people will be looking for ways to cool off.

But please remember: open water is not always a safe place to swim, even on the hottest days.

Rivers, brooks, canals, and quarries can be much colder than they look and can hide dangers like strong currents, deep water, and underwater obstacles.

💙 Help keep yourself and others safe:
❌ Avoid swimming in open, unsupervised water
🧊 Cold water shock can affect anyone, even strong swimmers
👯 Never go into water alone or under pressure from friends
🚫 Stay away from edges where you could slip or fall in
📱 In an emergency, call 999 and ask for Fire & Rescue
🌊 If you do fall in, remember: Float to Live lean back, keep calm, and control your breathing.

Our waterways and surrounding areas are also important habitats for wildlife. Please help protect them by respecting these natural spaces and leaving them undisturbed.

Help Us Keep Stourport’s Parks and Gardens Beautiful

Following the recent discovery of plants being removed from the flower beds in War Memorial Park, we were saddened to discover that further plants have been removed from the flower beds in Villeneuve-Le-Roi Gardens yesterday.

If you witnessed anything suspicious or have any information that could assist us, please contact Stourport-on-Severn Town Council at [email protected]. We will also be reviewing available CCTV footage as part of our enquiries.
