A woman remains in a critical condition after a pursuit involving a police vehicle and a car near Stratford on Monday (24 August).

A pursuit began that lasted around six minutes after a black Audi failed to stop for officers and made off towards the A46.

At 5.44pm the Audi driver is understood to have been in collision with another vehicle – a white Ford Puma – on the A439 Warwick Road.

It is believed at this early stage of investigation that two other cars were damaged because of the collision, with several others reporting damage from the pursuit.

Sadly, the male driver of the Audi was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. The Ford driver – a woman in her 60s – was taken to hospital in a critical condition where she remains at this time. A passenger in the Ford – a woman in her 20s - was treated for with minor injuries and another driver went to hospital for further assessment, but his injuries were not believed to be serious.

As is mandatory with a death following police contact, we referred ourselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The IOPC has declared an independent investigation, and we will continue to fully co-operate with their investigation.

A man has died and a woman is critically injured after a pursuit involving a police vehicle and a car near Stratford.

At around 5.23pm on Monday (24 August) officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Birmingham Road. The driver of the car – a black Audi – failed to stop and made off in the direction of the A46 before travelling back towards Stratford on the A439 Warwick Road.

At approximately 5.44pm, the car driver is understood to have been in collision with another vehicle – a white Ford Puma. The driver of the Audi - a 19-year-old man - was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

The Ford driver was taken to hospital where she remains at this time in a critical condition. Their families have been informed and are being offered specialist support.

A number of other vehicles were damaged during the pursuit.

Superintendent Steve Flavell said: “Our thoughts are with the families of everyone involved in this collision. We made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because a death had occurred following police contact. They have declared an independent investigation and we will co-operate fully with their investigation."

Stratford, there’s still time to tell us what matters to you!

This summer, your voice has helped shape our patrols to target the areas that need it most.

See what we’ve done together so far:

✅ You told us that retail theft at the Maybird is a priority. In response, we’re carrying out undercover patrols to deter shoplifters and catch offenders in the act, as well as giving retail staff crime prevention advice. These operations have helped reduce retail theft in the town.

✅ You told us that you’re concerned about groups travelling to Stratford by train and behaving antisocially. In response, we’re patrolling the station and engaging with young people about enjoying their visit safely.

✅ You also told us that burglary and vehicle crime are concerns in Shottery and Tiddington. In response, we’ve increased patrols, conducted enquiries and arrested three people, and shared crime prevention advice with residents.

It’s not too late to do the survey and tell us what else we need to prioritise. Are you concerned about:

- Road safety?
- Antisocial behaviour in the park?
- Or is the thought of burglary keeping you up at night?

Tell us what matters most to you (via link in comments).

Were you driving along the Evesham Road in Stratford just before midday last Thursday (13 August)?

We're appealing for anyone who might have seen a red BMW being ridden along the road in company with another motorbike.

It's believed the red motorbike, which was stolen from the drive of a house, was then ridden towards Welford and stopped in a layby before Bidford. The motorcyclists are understood to have threatened passing motorists.

One of the motorcyclists was wearing a dark T-shirt and trousers with a second dressed in a dark hooded top and dark trousers.

If you saw anything or can help, contact us via the link in comments quoting incident number 174 of 13 August.
