Strode Swimming & Fitness As an agent, Freedom Leisure operates Strode Swimming & Fitness on behalf of Somerset Council. A full range of aquatic and fitness activities are available.

Our aim is to 'improve lives through leisure' providing affordable, inclusive and sustainable facilities that the whole community can enjoy. Strode Swimming Pool & Fitness Centre (01458 443918) is located in the heart of Street and offers a 33.3m six-lane pool (the largest local authority pool in Somerset), separate teaching pool, 36-station fitness suite, exercise studio, sauna and vending café.

Strode Swimming & Fitness Update

We're pleased to announce that the upstairs gym, studio and small pool will reopen from Monday 7 September 2026, with normal opening hours resuming.

The small pool will be available for Learn to Swim lessons (Pre-School to Stage 2) and family swims. Unfortunately, the main pool and downstairs gym remain closed while essential repair works continue.

Strode Swimming & Fitness – Update

Repair works following the recent flooding are progressing, and we expect to have a clearer update on reopening timescales by the end of this week.

In recognition of the August closure:

✅ No Fitness Membership payment will be collected in September (members can continue to use Tor, Wells, Frome and Shepton Mallet).

✅ No Swim School payment will be collected in September due to lessons being unable to take place throughout August.

Due to Strode being closed, we’ll be putting the following classes on at Tor this week:

🏋️ Wednesday – Pump: 7:00–7:45am
💪 Wednesday – Kettlebells: 18:15–19:00
🙌Wednesday- Step, Jump and pump: 17:15-18:00
🥊 Thursday – Combat: 18:30–19:15

Strode Update

First off, we would like to thank all of our customers for their ongoing support and commitment at this time - it is appreciated by all of our staff and we value your loyalty to Strode.

We have got our contractors on site completing works as we speak repairing and replacing various electrical installations within our plant room after the flood that unfortunately occurred, which caused damage to these essential units.

The parts are bespoke and finite due to the older models of the electrical units, so there has been a great deal of work in locating and sourcing these parts, to which they have now all been ordered. Unfortunately, this will take some time for them all to be delivered as many of them are not purchasable through regular vendors and require specialist creation, and our engineers are working hard to install each of these parts as soon as they arrive.

As of this moment, we do not have a time frame regarding when all of these parts will arrive, but can assure you that the moment they are all installed and the green light is given to re-open Strode we will.

We are in discussion with the council and internal management regarding re-imbursement for our members and hope to have more details on this as soon as we have a time frame for opening. We again thank you for your patience at this time.

To help accommodate more members, we have moved some more Group Exercise classes over to Tor and Wells, with all memberships including use of the Pool, Gym and Sauna/Steam at available sites. We are aware this is not a blanket solution, but an attempt to continue to help people on their fitness journey.

Whilst we completely appreciate that this does not provide a clear timeline for opening, please rest assured that the teams are working tirelessly to resolve the situation and to support as many members of Strodes valued community as possible. We are fully aware of the how important Strode is to both the customers and staff and will continue to work together in this situation.

⚠️service update⚠️

New plant room parts have arrived and our electricians have begun installation! 🎉

However installation work is extensive and we are taking every precaution to ensure a safe and smooth installation.

Once installtion is complete we will undergo a series of tests to ensure everything is in full working order before fully restarting the Pool Plant room.

Whilst we still do not have a definite re-opening day as of yet, we are progessing steadily towards a operable plant room and water supply! 😃

The parts for the pool plant room are being sourced by our contractor.

The technicians are on standby to fit all the replacement parts upon arrival

Whilst the centre remains closed, taking the opportunity, some of our staff have kindly come in to the centre to do some decorative and smaller maintenance jobs in order to make the centre as presentable as possible for our community.

A special thank you to all those hard working staff and technicians this week ❤️

Bookings can be made through the app on the Strode page, a small note will appear indicating that the class is at another site.

Opening hours update!

Based on customer feedback, to help support in ensuring our community is still able to exercise and keep routine, we will be opening from 7am this week on Tuesday and Thursday at Tor Leisure to help continuity for our Strode users.

We look forward to welcoming you on Tuesday and Thursday 7am this week and helping with your fitness journey.

Important Member Update – Temporary Closure of Strode Leisure Centre

We regret to inform you that Strode Leisure Centre will remain closed until further notice due to an interruption to the site's water supply.

Our contractors are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue, and we will reopen the centre as soon as it is safe to do so. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Swim School Members
◾ Catch-up swimming lessons will be offered before the end of September wherever possible.
◾ If two lessons are cancelled as a result of the closure, then the amount will be refunded through a deduction of membership price.

Membership Access
During the closure, all members can continue to use their membership at the following centres:
◾ Tor Sports & Leisure (gym and group exercise available – no swimming pool)
◾ Wells Leisure Centre
◾ Shepton Mallet Lido
◾ Frome Sports & Fitness

Gym, swimming and group exercise classes remain available across these sites.
We will continue to provide updates as soon as we have further information. Thank you for your continued support and patience while we work to get Strode Leisure Centre back open again as quickly as we can.
